I am not expecting a miracle answer, I've given up hope of that!!! But maybe off loading my frustration here will help, everyone else with babies sleeping through must be fed up of listening to me!! So here goes...7 month bf baby naps well in the cot during the day 1.5hrs in morning and 1 hr after lunch, eats three solid meals a day, settles well in her cot at 6.30 and I go to bed at 10ish trying to sleep listening, waiting for that first predictable cry! It can be as early as 10 or later but it is followed by one, two or three further wakings during the night. Not all the feeds can be due to hunger as they can be shortly after a feed, my dh is able to settle her for a short time but the quickest way is for me to feed her. We have tried pick up put down, water, leaving her to cry but her screams just get louder and louder and I am exhausted!!
Any thoughts...?

This is what I do with mine.

I would try and keep her up until 730. Limit her sleep to 2 hours a day and No sleep after 3pm. Ensure min of 1 hour of fresh air after 3pm in buggy. If she wakes more than once at night I co-sleep.

I know others will say this is prob not the right thing to do but it works for me and generally she sleeps from 8pm until 5am wakes for a feed and sleeps with me until 630am. I really do spend all day knackering her out lol swimming is a great way to exhaust her.

forgot to mention mines is 7 months old a bf too.

Thank you,I think you are right about keeping her up later, its hard though as we are both exhausted!! Have tried to bring her in to bed to sleep in the early hours but she thinks it is morning time and time to play!! We swim once a week but have not seen any change to her sleep, am starting a gym group and hope this works!!

My baby started doing this at about 6 months for for weeks and weeks after sleeping through from 8 weeks old. Eventuay and I spoke to a sleep nanny who advised me to go in once he started crying and just put my hand on his chest for about 20 seconds and then leave and then go back every 2 minutes until he stopped crying and went back to sleep. It took two long hours and we thought he was never going to go to sleep, but he did and then the next night he slept through and has pretty much continued to do so save the odd cough and cold disturbances.

like grouphug, if dd (bf, 7.5m) wakes more than once I just bring her in with us.

her latest trick though is waking for an hour of chatting and wriggling any time between 1 and 4am, followed by an enormous poo. Which is less than fun whichever way you cut it .

Oh god, mrsB, the 4am poo. Thought it was just us!

MrsBadger · 09/04/2008 15:07

must be A Recognised Phase, like the 16wk growth spurt, the 5m sleep cock-up etc

actually I have ascertained she will poo after being awake for an hour, whenever that hour is - if it's not during the night it is at 7.30am as we are trying to leave the house. Am still not sure which is worse, as at least if the midnight one explodes I only have to change a babygrow not a whole outfit and we're not late for work...

warra · 09/04/2008 19:06

so today we have had loads of fresh air in the buggy, plenty of tummy filling vegy lentils and have been swimming, we have managed to delay bedtime by 30 mins - so lets see what happens tonight!!

How did it go warra? fiofio mine thinks that the high chair is a torture chamber lol, we now feed her on her mat on the floor until she gets over it.

warra · 10/04/2008 13:16

Afternoon! Well she was good last night - woke once at 1ish which is very good for her and wouldn't settle with water from hubby so fed her and she slept till 6am - result!! Not counting my chickens just yet!! I wonder if we can go swimming every day....?
