Please remind me. My second child is 4 months old, and I keep trying to make her sit up with lots of cushions behind and around her - but she just hunches right over (forwards) and looks very awkward.

can keep her head up most of the time really well, esp if Im carrying her.

can't help I'm afraid, I never propper either of mine up with cushions, I just waited until they were ready to sit up on their own

I'd say around 6 months.
Take the lead from her, which doesn't sound like now!

I used to pro both my girls 1 & 2 up with a cushion from about 5 1/2 months like as if they were sitting in a bouncer they were both holding there heads up most of the time

When they start enjoying it.

I never propped ds up but he sat on his own at 5 and half months. However, he still won't sit if he's propped up on an arm chair or cushions now, he just slumps and wriggles down til he's laying down or leans forward and sits on his own. He is 8 monts now. Perhaps I should have propped him up when he was tiny afterall!

NorthernLurker · 08/04/2008 08:12

maybe she's one who is going to prefer being on her tummy to sitting up? My dd1 was like that - didn't sit till she was 8 mths but had been moving around the floor for about 3 mths by then! She had really good head control early on as well.

Mine's 4mths, and although I don't sit him in the middle of the floor with a couple of cushions around him, he'll definitely be propped up quite upright in bed, or in the corner of the sofa. Seems quite happy, and does not lean forward too much.

Going by this, I'd say another couple of months.

(also think it depends on how 'solid' your baby is. The more solid, IMO, the easier it is for them to plant themselves upright)
