calling mums of 'janky crawlers'

Also sometimes known as three point crawling, asymmetrical crawling, bottom scooting.. There are all sorts of opinions online right from 'its a variation of normal' to 'your kid will have dyslexia'. Do/did any of you have 'janky crawlers'? did it correct itself? What did you do about it? does your DC have learning difficulties now? Just interested in some real world experiences.

For background my dc is 7months, started with army crawling (biasing one side) and now crawls with one foot up and one foot pushing off behind. I had left it up till now but she is showing no signs of starting to crawl symmetrically so starting to worry.

Had one Army Crawler. Now has ADHD. Don't know if that helps or not?

@thornberet sorry not an answer to your question but my LG has just started crawling like this at 9.5 months - did your wee one continue to do it or did they start “normal” crawling eventually? I’ve also just done the same google search you probably done and also worrying!!

She started normal crawling after about 2.5 months of janky crawling. I think it was just her way of transitioning into full crawling. I did take her to an osteopath who said she had some tightness somewhere but I think it was more a function of time doing its thing than anything else. I wish I hadn't stressed about it so much - she's just taking her first steps at 10 months so I don't think anything was wrong at all.

My DD (now age 7 years old) did this, she had hip dysplasia that went undetected at the 2 weeks and 8 weeks check. I spoke to health visitor who said it was nothing.

She was biased to her left when crawling, or would drag herself by her arms.

When she started walking (age 10 months or so) she had a limp so I took her to gp who referred her for x-ray on her hips/pelvis where we found out about her hip dysplasia.

She also has autism/pda but I think the two are unrelated, my younger son has autism/pda too and crawled fine. He's 4 next week.

Definatley speak to your GP and push for an x-ray of the hips. It's almost certainly not hip dysplasia, but if it's found early it can be treated without surgery. My daughter was diagnosed at 15 months and has had 11 surgeries to date on her hips and pelvis.

Thanks for this definitely good to know. I had hip displasia as a child so dd was x rayed for it soon after birth. Things seem to have resolved now so I'm hoping it was just a transition thing.

@PureRed1992 thank you that’s good to know. She was scanned for HD when she was a newborn as I have a cousin that had it so they said they would check my wee one just as a precaution, all looked fine but I certainly will bare this in mind. She’s only been crawling about a week so far so I’ll maybe see how she is in a month and if she’s still doing it I’ll get in touch with our HV.
