So, my 24 week old is showing no inclination to roll - should I be concerned?

That's it really, when do I worry?

9mo here - no rolling - no inclination to roll - if rolled onto tummy gets very very annoyed!!!
Don't worry!

latchmeregirl · 06/04/2008 21:59

I'm not sure rolling is considered a proper "milestone" because it doesn't lead to anything else iykwim - at least that's what my HV told me (she is, I would add, pretty useless).

My 10 month old ds can't roll, which used to worry me - BUT he can crawl (at speed), sit up from lying down on his tummy, pull himself to standing, kneel up and cruise round the furniture. So I can't now get too worked up about his failure to roll - I'm guessing all his muscles work. I'm just enjoying the luxury of being able to leave him on his back when I change him and him not being able to crawl away...and my best friend's little girl never (she claims) rolled - she's now 3 and looks pretty ok to me.

thats about 6-7 months, still early days yet so do not worry. one day your lo will just roll and then the trouble begins!! no longer can you put them somewhere like your bed while you have a bath as they will not be there the minute you turn your back!!
i say make the most of it while you can!

My DS3 is not wanting to roll either at 23 weeks, he squeaks at us and gets rather annoyed when put on his front.
He is happy enough to try to stand at EVERY opportunity, and has worked out how to pivot around in a circle when he's on his back.

ScubaDuba · 06/04/2008 22:52

My dd didn't roll until she was about 10-11mths, long after she'd learnt to crawl. I wasn't concerned because it's not a milestone. She just didn't seem interested in rolling!

MegSophandEmma · 06/04/2008 22:58

dd3 is 10 mths and still hasn't rolled. She sits an has been since about 5 mths but rolling is another story. She hates to be on her tummy.

soph28 · 06/04/2008 23:01

my dd (dc2) didn't roll till she was over 12mths. She never crawled but bum shuffled from a year. Her cot was still at the highest setting after her 1st birthday cos she couldn't get up from her back!

She walked at 18mths and is now a perfectly normal, active 21mth old but she still cries if she falls and gets stuck on her back- you just have to say to her 'roll over' and she will and then gets up!!

Really she was a baby until she was 18mths and she has suddenly become a toddler in a few months!

lackaDAISYcal · 06/04/2008 23:03

My DD was commando crawling at 28 weeks, but didn't roll herself over until she was past 30 weeks, so I wouldn't worry just yet.

Now at 10mo she is cruising the furniture and climbing stairs!

Niecie · 06/04/2008 23:06

My DS didn't roll either, not before he walked at 11 months, not that I noticed anyway.

DS2 rolled at 4.5 mths and then didn't walk until 14 months.

I don't think it is anything to worry about. It doesn't seem to mean much at all in terms of future development.

pinkyminky · 06/04/2008 23:10

I wouldn't be worrying! Babies really do develop in many varied ways and different times. I have a very unproven unscientific theory, but my DS didn't roll til he was sitting up and trying to crawl. DD rolled over really early. She sleeps on her front whilst DS always sleeps on his back. Has anyone else found this?

ScubaDuba · 07/04/2008 08:48

Nope, the opposite! My dd sleeps on her front all night long and didn't roll until she was 10-11mth (after crawling) but ds rolled as per textbook (12wks ish) and is a total back-sleeper!

fiodyl · 07/04/2008 09:20

try leaving him unattended on the sofa while you go out of the room! Baby will soon learn to roll over
JOKE-btw

MrsBadger · 07/04/2008 09:30

[anecdotal evidence follows]

the babies in our antenatal group seemed to be either 'sitters' or 'rollers'
ones that rolled first worried their mothers because they couldn;t sit up
ones that sat up worried their mothers because they never rolled

obv they're all fine

you can't win

imaginewittynamehere · 07/04/2008 09:34

Dd didn't roll until she was 9 months - she crawled the day after....
She hated being on her front & wwas an early sitter so I think she just didn't see the need before. Don't worry!!
