My LG is 17 months old, she says dada, Ma for mama and she also says go and wow I’m really worried she’s falling behind

I think it might be worth talking to your HV. The 18 month Ages & Stages gives you an idea of what she should be doing at this age although obviously, not all DC will be achieving everything.

My 17 moths old has no solid words, just lots of evolving and changing sounds and clearly increasing comprehension. She does the hand movements from incy wincey spider while repeating 'dagun, dagun', and we get the occasional ee-i-ee-i from old Mcdonald, and she babbles a lot (ning ning doy doy dee dee dee etc) and recently she started making a sound that tells us when she wants something, and pretty much everyone I know who has kids has told me not to worry. I'll probably get a bit concerned in a couple of months but I have heard enough stories of late talkers who end up just fine so I wouldn't worry too much yet. Development tick boxes will have a list and provided my little one meets most of them I'm happy enough. Some of them focus on physical skills more than verbal etc. The listed averages just lead to us getting parental worry and guilt which really sucks.

My 2 year old (turned 2 in Jan) didn’t say a single word until 6 weeks before his 2nd birthday!
I was worrying so so much, then out of nowhere he suddenly started saying loads of words! Colours, numbers, names of animals, etc
He’d been watching Yakka Dee and I do think that it helped (it’s fab they’re on YouTube and iplayer)

He had his 2 year old review a few months ago and they’re not concerned, they’re going to call me in 6 months to see how his speech has progressed

but at 17/18 months old he never said a word, wouldn’t even make sounds, just pointed at things or cried when something was up x

We need to hear these kind of things. My HV is obsessed with milestones and got me really, really worried when my baby didn't smile by 8 weeks ...... then she smiled at 8 weeks and 3 days. I had spent 3 days crying about it. Now I ignore my HV and find forums like this to remind me that averages come from having both ends of the spectrum! Some have a word or two at 10 months, some not until nearly 3 years, the rest of us are floating somewhere in between along that line. At my little one's 18 month review that is due in a few weeks, my HV will probably tell me she's probably going to non-verbal or something because she's not yet talking at 17.5 months. I'll ignore the lady and tell her my baby is doing just fine. I can see she is progressing and her communication is evolving, it just hasn't evolved at the perfectly average rate!
