18m old no longer sleeping through

Our 18m old DD used to sleep really well in the next to me cot in our room - she would wake up or stir but settle very quickly. We’ve now moved her into her own room and she hasn’t slept through once and when she wakes up, she’s inconsolable and we find it so hard to settle her again that we usually just bring her back into the room and I co-sleep with her. I feel we’ve maybe made a rod for our own backs by offering co-sleeping but we both work full time and are knackered and she falls asleep very quickly with us.

is this separation anxiety manifesting at night? She has no issues being dropped at nursery but recently if I’ve got upstairs to go to the loo, she’s started crying even though her dad is still there and I’m back within a couple of minutes. Any tips? Is it worth contacting HV? (Have found them kind of useless to date)

Would moving the cot back into your room be an option with a view to trying again in a while?

There is a sleep regression at 18 months or there abouts so it may have just been bad timing to move your little one to a different room. Ours has been in own room since 6 months but is 17 months and one week old and has been sleeping poorly for a couple of weeks now after months of sleeping through. However, ours is sleep trained and was at 6 months (for us it was quick and easy and took minutes, i realise its not for everyone) so she has been sleeping independently for a long time, I'm hoping the regression passes soon as her sleep is so unpredictable right now! Good luck with it.

Thanks both - she slept in her cot uninterrupted until 6 this morning, so trying to think if I did anything differently - I gave her a bit more food so possibly was hunger (although she’s still having a milk before bed) so I’ll try that again and hope for the best!

We try to stuff ours as full as possible at dinner and we still give her milk too, and will for the foreseeable! We have noticed once or twice a very early wake due to hunger, so we work really hard to avoid it now. But now and again they just won't eat enough, eh!
