In your experience, when does the pointing become speaking?

That's it really. We're at 19 months and have been pointing for a long time. I've made note of over 40 words that have been spoken at least once, but they're not flowing. I'm not worried, and am quite happy with the fact that everyone develops at a different rate, but I am interested to know WHEN the switch has happened, in your experience, please. Thank you.

You're probably doing this already but when they point, try to ignore it and make them ask for what they want. Or ask them 'do you want your teddy/whatever?' when they point instead of just giving it to them.

My boy had lots of wierd noises and signs at about 19 months. Around 2 that formed into language and now he's 3 he talks more or less like a normal human (although he still says things like "mine elephant" and "ba-sketty" [maternal love emoticon]

My 14month old points randomly at everything! He is saying some words, but his favourite is moooore! said in a true Mr Bumble way. Should have called him Oliver.
