When did your bum shuffler walk?

DD is 12 months and I can't see her walking any time soon ( or crawling! But I'm writing that off as unlikely). She's on the 9th centile if that makes any difference..

When did yours eventually walk?

My bum shuffler eventually walked at 17.5 months. She was so fast on her bum I don't think she had any impetus to walk!

She also didn't really pull to stand til about 13/14 months. She learned to traditionally crawl at 12 months and did that a bit but preferred bum shuffling.

Try not to worry (easier said than done- I know I did) because she will get there and bum shufflers are known to be later.

Bumping as I’m keen to know the answers too.

We are still waiting at 23 months and I’m getting quite worried! We have been seeing physio since 19 months but progress is slow.

HV told me anything up to AND AROUND 24 months is not a concern. So @wishIwasonholiday10 don't you worry,

Interested to know what the physio checked etc to know that everything seemed okay with you little one?

Bum shufflers tend to walk up to 6 months later on average because they don't have the need to walk in the way a crawler does.

The physio just checked her legs and watched how she moves. We are actually not sure if something is wrong and further medical investigations might be on the cards. The physio says she is not hyper mobile but does have low muscle tone and is not sure if this is just from not using the muscles and always bending her legs while bum shuffling or another underlying problem.

I would have her investigated medically at this point @wishIwasonholiday10 - it could be nothing but equally you don’t want to waste a lot of time if there is a medical cause that could be treated?

@MaryMaryVeryContrary We are planning to very soon. I was weighing up the possibility that we put her through painful or invasive tests for no reason too soon versus the advantages of getting a quicker diagnosis if there is one to be had. From the physio point of view the approach will be the same with or without a diagnosis.

@wishIwasonholiday10 sounds totally sensible. Hope everything goes well xx

You could get the system rolling as tests often take a while to book in if you’re in the U.K.

Best of luck x
