Power Rangers "babyish"?

I have spent the day with a friend and her two boys (8&10). TBH, it wasn't a great day and some of her boys' behaviour was a bit trying, with lots of wining and "I wants".

Something that surprised me was that they were quite unpleasant to my two (6&4), as they wanted to play Power Rangers. The 8yo thought this was babyish (actually said "gay" ). Now, I have only just given in and allowed mine to watch it at all, thinking it was too violent, can they really be too old for it at 8? What do 8yo's watch - do I really want to know?

My 7 year old ds has moved on to Star Wars and Indiana Jones. He hasn't played or watched Power Rangers for about a year. However a couple of his friends still do .

I think 8 year old boys are in a difficult inbetween phase.

Oh - we like Star Wars too - much better IMO, at least there's a story and a moral etc.

nah, it's only for babies round here, once they start at school, that's it, onto other things
so grown up, so young
mine never actually watched it, just like they've never seen spiderman, somehow it doesn't seem to make any difference
the unpleasant behaviour sounds a bit trying

My ds is nearly 6 and tells me power rangers are babyish. He grew out of them about a year ago.

Starwars and WWE here

SmugColditz · 03/04/2008 22:16

god, my boy is 5, has never even seen power rangers, and I have only just bought him a Power Rangers top to be like his friend who loves it. Too young for him?

onebatmother · 03/04/2008 22:20

I think it could all change next month. DS (6) is off and on things all the time. Don't Panic!

Hulababy · 03/04/2008 22:22

Friend's little boy is 6.5yo and he seems to have moved off Power Rangers now and is into Star Wars and thinks of that ilk.

perpetualworrier · 03/04/2008 22:26

Oh, this is too hard. I used to have absolute confidence that I knew what was best for my kids, but now it's starting to matter what other kids think, I can't keep up. Although TBH, it seems to matter more to me than to my DS's at ATM. Doubt it can stay that way for long though.

Power Rangers, babyish????!!! I beg to differ! I watched it til I was 10! Having said that I'm probably not the best judge as I still watch Saved by the Bell!

cece · 06/04/2008 08:10

My 4 year old and his friends all love Power Rangers. I would say some of them are a bit obsessed. This is despite many of them not having even watched it. But form what I can understand they seem to play Power Rangers quite a lot.

In fact DS told me just before he was 4 that Bob the Builder was babyish

DJCod · 06/04/2008 08:15

ds is 4.6 and has been into power rangers for about 8mths. However he also still quite a fan of peppa pig and the night garden so dread to think how much stick he will get at school next year

mumeeee · 07/04/2008 10:32

My 8 yo announced only a few weeks ago that Power Rangers Ninja Turtles and the rest were "babyish"

They have made way for Simpsons, Runescape, Star Wars (sniff)

southeastastra · 07/04/2008 10:51

my ds(6) started saying gay last week, it's obviously the new put down at school, though he thinks it means happy.

really peed me off but back to school tomorrow so i'll see if it starts again.
