What age did your children start cycling? (without stabilisers)

Just curious to see what age your children started cycling independently? Hv said ds1 balance is really good and to start him at 3 without stabilisers. Dd was almost 6. Ds2 balance isn't as good, is this what it depends on?

DD1 cracked it a couple of months before she turned four. If a child has had a fair bit of practice with a balance bike and then has a suitably lightweight first pedal bike, I don't think three or four is that unusual these days. The balance bikes make a big difference!

Our DC learned at around 4, we had a Woom 3 and took the pedals off, within about 2 weeks she went from not being interested at all to gliding to school every day. Once she was gliding, she learned to pedal almost immediately. Where we live stabilizers are very much not the current trend, but balance bikes and lightweight bikes seem to have really made a huge difference. I'm sure i didn't learn until 7!

I think it also depends on confidence. Ds was gliding around on his balance bike at 3 and could pedal trikes well by 2.5 but he was very nervous about transitioning to a pedal bike (which we got him at 3 as we assumed he would take straight to it!🙄) In hindsight I think the pedal bike was just too heavy for him to manage and i would have probably got a more lightweight one. He's suddenly shown an interest at 4.5 and mastered it within a couple of days!

Balance bikes and then lightweight frog bikes are the trend round here. Most are cycling by 3/4
