I asked for her to be referred and health visitor agreed.

She just doesn't stop growing and it concerns me terribly. Now i am tall(6ft2)so yes i realise that genetically she will follow me but i am scared that her growth is extreme. If she grows into an adult of 5ft10 or even 6ft 2 fine by me as it is tall but not like giantism, which is my concern.
Since october she has grown 10 cm and is just going over the top centile line.
She is really way off the scale for weight (18.5kg)and yet she is not fat just sturdy.

She is 2 years.2months.

Hopefully it will even out..my mum was always the tallest in her class but ended up 5 ft 2. Glad you can get her checked out though!

"Thing is i want to nip it in the bud if i can otherwise she will have no life other than to be a source or mockery and ridecule. "

Hopefully, the paed will be able to reassure you that it won't be an issue, and it's understandable that you should feel like this, but you mustn't get this thought too entrenched in your mind.

If the worst happens and she does grow abnormally tall, her life will still be about other things than rididule or mockery- and it will be up to you to show her that! The less embarrassed you are, the less embarrassed she will be, and the children around her will pick up on her attitude towards herself.

We have other mumsnetters whose children have dwarfism, or extremely bendy joints, or severe disabilities- it really doesn't define them as persons. Not even in the minds of other children.

Beauregard · 02/04/2008 22:31

Yes but i know myself how shit it can be to be different being as tall as i am (i loathe it btw)god help the child if she grows to be taller.

how tall is her father?

HereComeTheGirls · 03/04/2008 10:16

Also my DD goes through spells of growing a LOT in height, and looks like a skinny beanpole, and then stops for a while..maybe it is one of these phases?

HereComeTheGirls · 03/04/2008 10:25

Anyway I am probably talking nonsense, I'm sure the paediatrician visit will be really helpful

HereComeTheGirls · 03/04/2008 10:26

nonsense as in I don't really know much about the subject!

Beauregard · 03/04/2008 20:51

Dp is about 5ft 8/9

Well, from the little I know, if they did find anything at the paediatrician appt they would probably be able to treat it, ie if she had an excess of growth hormone, and if they don't find anything the growth will probably even out - if your DP was very tall as well then she'd be more likely to be very tall. My dad was 6'4 but my mum only 5'2...I ended up just under 5'8.. HTH a wee bit.

Beauregard · 03/04/2008 21:14

Thankyou ,i hope that she will slow down
