Can you prevent a toddler escaping from a sleeping bag?

I have just checked on 12mo DD during her afternoon nap. She is curled up at one end of the cot, grobag is neatly piled at t'other end . She is very wriggly in her sleep, so I'd like her to stay in grobags as long as possible. Any tips from parents of junior houdinis gratefully received.

she undoes the zip?

grobags have the "head" of the zip (iykwim) at the bottom of the zip, so it's harder for them to be undone - worth a go?

I don' know how to best describe this, but hopefully you'll understand what I mean!! Tuck the 'puller' bit of the zip into the sleeping bag, and then close the last bit by pulling the main zipper bit. Be warned though it's a bit tricky to undo, but easier than dealing with mini houdinis!!

I am sure someone will explain more succinctly what I mean!

only way I found that stopped DS2 (for a while, until he was about 18 months old).....was to put the grobag on back-to-front and inside out......

I have also heard the tip, put the grobag on back to front, as they cannot undo the zip then???

Haven't had to try it as my son is only 8 months - only a matter of time tho....

grobag is only kind DS1 can't escape.

if it is one with poppers at the top of the arms then try using one with a zip down the front instead

PerkinWarbeck · 02/04/2008 13:52

thanks - nice to know it's not just us!

I must confess this was one of the grobag copies, with the right-way-up zip. Am frantically blow-drying proper grobag for tonight!

Will definitely try back-to-front and tucking in the zip though.

A nappy pin on top of the zip used to keep our DD in her bag.
