Accidentally jerked back hard while holding 6 month old feeling super anxious!

Hi,

I was holding my 6 month old in one hand by the legs and making up a feed with the other hand in the kitchen, went to get the lid for the bottle and somehow knocked the boiling milk from the bottle. Naturally I jumped (or jerked?) while holding the baby and now I’m super worried about shaken baby syndrome? She let out a cry for about 30 secs I don’t know maybe some hot milk splashed onto her clothes, or she got scared by my sudden movement but afterwards she was ok. I already suffer from postnatal ocd and anxiety I just can’t switch off my worries in case I’ve harmed her brain by the sudden movement. Please help.

I have a 10.5 month old, what you will learn once they’re on the move is, they’re tougher than they look. The first time he bumped himself, I was about to be on my way to a&e, thought he would get a concussion. He was fine, and now has fell over a lot more. Can’t lie it breaks my heart every time but he’s okay.

Shaken baby syndrome happens when people abuse their babies, shake them, their head wobbling everywhere. Not when a mum leans back to avoid a hot drink on her little girl. She will be okay, I know it’s scary when they’re so little 🥹

One jerking movement is less shock than falling over once they start walking. If theywere damaged by that no child would ever be ok!

Shaken baby syndrome is caused by repeated vigorous movement. Not one accused. Your baby will be absolutely fine.
