ds1 (nearly 3yo) had been referred for speech (or lack of)

at christmas was still saying next to nothing

the last few weeks have been amazing in terms of progress

and this morning he made me laugh twice

first, "oh no, not this again" in response to me putting bbc breakfast on in the kitchen

and just now "i like this top mummy. it's a good colour"

Wonderful

Feel free to gush, I bet you're delighted

TotalChaos · 02/04/2008 09:07

wow, sounds like he's come on extremely well the last few months.

Ulysees · 02/04/2008 09:07

That's brilliant DS2 was pretty late in talking and it's amazing how they suddenly come on. Your ds is not only talking he sounds bright IMO.

Great news

Tutter · 02/04/2008 09:18

aw shucks

now i've started i can't stop..

he also pointed to the shredded wheat and told me that there were two heart shapes on the box

he then held his fingers up in diamond and triangle shapes and told me what they were

and, unbeknownst to me, he has learnt all his numbers and letters

(thank you numberjacks and baby einstein )

Tutter that is fab!
Must be such a weight of worry off your shoulders.

Ds (similar age - 2.9) wasn't quite so extreme but has been vaguely similar in that until November didn't really say that much but then from then I think he's probably caught up with normalish.

I find it incredible that he was storing up so much and just didn't say it and then it was like a switch came on. I love the fact that I now get all these insights into his thinking!

Although there's been worrying along the way, there is something amazing about this kind of speech development where they make a huge leap all of a sudden!

fryalot · 02/04/2008 09:34

you hear tell of these children who don't speak for ages, but when they do, they come out with full sentences.

Well done tutterboy

edam · 02/04/2008 09:36

Clever boy!

Meandmyjoe · 02/04/2008 10:58

Aww how cute! Sounds like he's doing really really well. I agree with him about the bbc beakfast thing though, get GMTV on! lol

LilRedWG · 02/04/2008 10:59

Wow! That's amazing progress Gush away m'dear.

Oliveoil · 02/04/2008 11:02

well done young Tutter man

how is he doing at nursery?

suedonim · 02/04/2008 11:56

Aw, bless, Tutter! My ds2 was a slow starter. The first sentence he came out with was at the age of 2.5+yrs. I'd asked him whether he wanted bread or toast at breakfast then gave him the wrong thing because he came out with an indignant 'Said bread, not toast!' He's all grown up now and graduates PhD in July so his slow start hasn't held him back any.

Dd2 was also slow to speak and now she never, ever stops gabbling away nineteen to the dozen.

MNersanonymous · 02/04/2008 14:01

I think some of this is hereditary and maybe some of it a confidence issue. Ds's grandma (MIL) was a late talker and my brother didn't say a word until he was three but is a Cambridge grad. They are both quite sciency mathematical types and apparently it is linked to that sometimes.

cheesesarnie · 02/04/2008 14:05

thats fantastic!my oldest ds has had speech delay and has improved really well recently which is great.also ds2 was reffered by hv who never even saw him to speech therapist and 2 days later suddenly started yapping away!speech therapist said no worries at the moment

Tutter · 02/04/2008 18:54
