When do I get shoes?

My ds is 11 months and has been 'walking' for a few weeks now. He still prefers crawling but will get up and walk across the room.

I would like to let him walk a bit outside but he doesn't have shoes yet, I tried some pre walker shoes (the soft ones) and they dn't fit him because he has quite big, fat feet, but the shoes for walkers are quite heavy and I'm not sure if they would be suitable for him as he's not really walking everywhere.

Just wondering if the first walker shoes would hamper his walking or not.
Thanks

generally- 6 weeks after he starts walking or whenever you want him to walk outside

he should have shoes when he is walking steadily, unaided by himself.

When you first put the shoes on him, he will appear to "fall over his own feet" for a bit, but he will soon get used to them.

It sounds like he is ready for shoes now. Clarks do a fitting service, and you get a nice pic of them wearing their first shoes

yes i agree with pixie but indoors let him go barefoot

i went to a local childrens shoe shop and we picked up GEOX soft shoe/boots for my dd at 12 mths once she started walking a few steps on her own. They were £20 and were a half way house between pram shoes and proper shoes. Once she outgrew those she's been in proper shoes and hasn't had any probs with the stiffer sole.

I haven't tried these, so can't give you a recommendation, but I am quite tempted by them for once DS starts walking.

(I should say that I can recommend the soft ones as slippers/pram shoes, but obviously that's not the question here)

Ask the people at clarks/ start-rite. They are so knowledgeable. What ever you decide you should get his feet properly fitted as he will probubly need a wide width fitting.

Thanks for advice, I'll go to clarks and see what they've got. Though I'm not that convinced about some assisstants shoe fitting capabilities I end up fitting my dd's shoes myself (actually since ds is my 3rd child I should know all this but there's a big gap and I haven't got a clue what I did with them!).

And not sure he'll even sit still to put a shoe on. I can't help think that they'll wonder whta I'm doing there as he's so little, though he's a big baby IYKWIM.
