I feel awful having to write this post as I feel like I've failed parenting. My daughter 9 months old next week cannot do multiple things I've been told she should be attempting to do or doing. I understand that not all babies develop the same but I feel like I've failed at basic things. Here's a little insight to what she can't do...

  1. She can't roll onto her front to her back. (Can can roll from back to front but she can't roll back)
  2. She's not interested in even attempting to hold her own bottle.
  3. Refuses water and won't hold a sippy cup.
  4. We baby lead weaned and trying to introduce spoons but she refuses to hold a spoon and just dumps it down.
  5. She HATES tummy time and screams til we pick her up.

I just feel like I've been too relaxed with her. My little boy was crawling by this point and drank water from a sippy cup so I'm feeling so defeated by this all. This might be a little early but I read that she should be also trying to pull herself up standing from sitting is this right? I just feel so alone right now while all my friends babies are hitting these milestones (who are the same age) my little girl is just moving extremely slowly 😭 any advice? X

I guess the first piece of advice would be to not compare your baby to those around you, or to what your son was doing at that age.
Have you spoken to your health visitor about your concerns?
Does she crawl? You’ve said she hates tummy time and doesn’t roll certain ways, but can she sit?
Just to reassure you in some ways - my son never liked tummy time and didn’t roll from back to front until about 10 months. He’s never pulled himself up from sitting to standing. He’s perfectly fine and healthy and just developing in his own way and has found his own unique way of getting himself to standing.

She can sit yes & no she can't crawl. I've been trying to get in contact with the HV for ages and just keep getting passed from pillow to post, my local area have had so many cuts so I can't manage to get an appointment at the drop in or a reply from the support line 😭 I suppose im just super worried about her development because I rely on Google most times which is definitely not the best idea x

Hi, honestly I wouldn’t worry (harder to do than say I know). I have a 9 month old boy and after constantly feeling judged that I was a bad mum, I’m trying to ignore people’s comments.

My little one has only begun sitting this month and is still very wobbly - he is weaker on his left side and always props himself up in his highchair on this side.

after numerous people (incl MIL) told me I should see a dr, I visited a physio. The physio said the milestones most people go by are quite dated and for instance sitting is more of a 8-12 month milestone not 6 months like everyone thinks it is.

im trying not to worry as he approaches 10 months (next week). He has improved a lot over the last 3 weeks but still can’t sit unaided for longer than a minute or two.

I blamed myself because he used to scream when we did tummy time so never did it with him. Thought this was the reason why for a long time but my mum said tummy time wasn’t a thing when I was little and I shouldn’t worry, all babies vary and do things in their own time.

Just think when they’re 2.. can anyone tell when they met these milestones? They all even out eventually.
