My 8 month old has no desire to do anything!

I know all babies develop at different rates and that's perfectly normal but i can't help but worry about my 8 month old.

She can't sit up unaided, has never rolled back to front, she rolled front to back once at 5 months and then never again! She isn't trying to hold her weight at all. When practicing sitting she just flings herself backwards, and doesn't bend her legs or lean forward to balance. She also just hates tummy time and will only do it for around 5 minutes before getting really worked up.

My son was sitting at 6 months and crawling before 8 months so it's kind of taken me by surprise that she just has no desire to move!

I guess i'm just wondering if i should just be happy to have a really chilled out baby or if i should be concerned.

Also any tips to encourage her would be appreciated :)

Sorry I don't have any advice but just wanted to say I'm in the same boat with my 9 month old except he started sitting at 6 months and that's all he wants to do. Only just learnt to roll over from back to front at 8 months but can't roll front to back. Hates tummy time and most of the time will just face plant instead of trying to lift up on his arms, can't even pivot round, manages to put weight on his legs for a few seconds when I hold him up before just sitting, cries if I try and put him on his knees. He just seems to have no interest in moving.

My health visitor just told me keep practicing and do little and often with the tummy time but I'm at a loss as to what to do if he just refuses. He's doing fine with everything else but as a first time mum I'm getting so anxious about this. I was worrying I was doing something wrong so nice to know there are other lazy babies around!

Thank you for sharing its definitely nice to know my girl is not the only one like this! with this being my second it's so hard not to compare, she's just an extremely chilled out baby whereas he has always been hyperactive. they are polar opposites!

I haven't yet no as she turned 8 months 3 days ago and from what i've seen online i'm not sure they will see it as a cause of concern until 9 months.

But i'm slightly concerned about her not bending her legs when trying to sit. I'm not sure if she can't bend them or just doesn't want too as she forces herself backwards!
I think i might contact the health visitor about this!

I think at this point I'd fill on the 8 month ages & stages and ask your HV to score it. You can score it yourself of course Wink

Thanks for letting me know about the ages and stages questionnaire, i've just done it and she's absolutely fine on every category apart from gross motor, she can't do any of them. I guess this confirms that there may be cause for concern and i will be in contact with our health visitor. My partner thinks i'm worrying for nothing and to leave her be to develop at her own pace.

My DH very much takes this line of I've ever been concerned over the DC.

My DH has absolutely no experience of other babies or children, which I think makes his opinion really quite odd.

Every single time I thought something was off and got help and support DH has tried to put me off.

Go with your gut OP. If it turns out your DD doesn't need support, that will be a good thing abd if she does you're getting it for her nice and early Wink

Hi, how’s your little one getting on?

I feel very much in the same boat as you. My son rolled over at 5 months and then didn’t again until 7 months. He’s now 9 months (10 next week) and will move himself around the room by rolling, pivoting and trying to lunge himself forward but hasn’t attempted to crawl or pull himself up at all. He only just sat by himself for a minute or two this month but is still quite wobbly (still have to place toys in front of him so he can use them to balance) otherwise he just flops to the side. I saw a physio who said babies do things in their own time and not to worry too much. She also said sitting is more a 8-12 month milestone, not 6 like everyone thinks.

he is a clever little chap though - has been able to clap/wave/point since 8 months and can say a few words ‘mama’ ’dada’ ‘phello’ ‘buhbye’ and ‘woof’ (we have dogs).

maybe babies focus on one or the other and will eventually even out?
