5 year old gets very frustrated and easily gives up when she can't do something

well, she's nearly 6.

find it so hard to help her do things as if she can't do it straight away she throws a wobbly and refuses to try again.

for example: skipping, forward rolls, jigsaws, reading, writing etc etc

how can I help her persevere in the face of adversity? mind you, I am probably the same. is it something they learn, how to apply themselves?

thanks

She's a girl!!
dd1 is 8 and is exactly the same. I find the more i try to help her the more annoyed/angry etc she gets. I've learned to just leave her be, she tries more when i'm not there. i think she's embarassed (for want of a better word) to fail in front of me. She likes to be able to do everything 1st time but of course, lifes not like that. I just be there for her when she's ready to come and ask for help/advice.

You could praise her when she does stick at something and let her see how it feels to achieve something, even if its only minor. Then use that small success as an example when she is upset again, and remind her how great it felt to keep on at something.

don't help her

encourage her to keep trying

if she doesn't want to try put whatever it is away and do something else

if she kicks up a fuss at putting the jigsaw/whatever away then say

"you can only keep it out if you have another go/try again/do it by yourself because i know you can do it really well you clever girl etc etc
