Can I throw my son a ladybug picnic party? And any ideas of how to do it? :)

He will be 2 but he likes cute things, hes not a laddy boy IYKWIM.

He loves fifi and dora but don't really want to go down that route.

So he loves dressing up so thought this might be good?

I wouldn't expect parents to dress all the kids up but can if they want to and DS can be a ladybug?

sounds just lovely I don't see why you shouldn't do it at all

a ladybird cake should be easy enough

am sure I have an aged 2yr ladybird costume somewhere if thats any use to you? its only a sainsburys one but its sweet!!

KatyMac · 29/03/2008 08:56

Have everyone come in red tops & have cut out sticky black dots to stick on them

Either give them the sots or make them 'earn' them by winning games/doing tasks

Games ideas - rescuing the babies from a bucket and carrying them one at a time to place in another bucket a few metres away

sounds great - really lovely.

Ladybird cake dead easy and you could easily make miniature fairy cakes/biscuits decorated as ladybirds and bees.

red and black plates/napkins/cups etc.

Getting excited for you!

Awww what a lovely idea. I'm sure any kid would love that.

I'm sure you can buy lady bird accessories and cakes too. It sounds so cute, can I come?? lol!

Seriously though, start looking for stuff on the internet as often cakes and party things can be a lot cheaper rather than spending loads in shops or making stuff. It would be nice if you could have it in the garden maybe or a local park. Kids love being outdoors and having picnics. Just have to hope for good weather. If not, it would still be successful indoors. See no reason why you couldn't do it, sounds great!

KatyMac · 29/03/2008 09:00

If you have to do it indoors buy (or dye) a green sheet for grass

Fairy cakes could be decorated like toadstools & flowers

FrannyandZooey · 29/03/2008 09:00

table cloth

they have party bags etc in the same design (I know it is Charlie and Lola but they mostly have ladybirds on)

dizzydixies · 29/03/2008 09:01

enough from me!!

lady bird cake - dead easy - made one for dd2's birthday last year.

recipe book I used

see if I can find a pic somewhere to add to my profile pics for you.

eidsvold · 29/03/2008 10:04

have added pic to my profile - I got about 10 - 15 slices of cake from that one. butter icing - was fine in Aussie summer - then used freckle sweets, licorice strap and smarties for eyes.

dizzydixies · 29/03/2008 10:35

have found it!!! will email you later as about to go out

Littlefish · 29/03/2008 11:17

Have a look on my profile - I've added a picture of the birthday cake I made for DD. It was really really easy!

I bought some sets of ladybird wings from Claire's accesssories last year. No idea if they still have them, but you could give them out instead of party bags.

Littlefish · 29/03/2008 11:17

Sorry - photo not there! I'll try again.

Littlefish · 29/03/2008 11:19

Has it worked this time?

Littlefish · 29/03/2008 11:19

Aaaaargh!

windygalestoday · 29/03/2008 11:25

i saw a nanny programme once she had a lady bird party for her twin charges(she was very dedicated even bought her own silver cross twin carriage pram)the sanwiches were circles and the spots were raisins she had ladybird flags in the food and red jelly spotted with chocolte buttons.......you could make ladybirds for the grden using red lino cut on circles decorated with marker pen.....same with red balloons....
