Help 4yo wear glasses

Ds is 4 almost 5 and just got a pair of glasses yesterday. I know it's early days but he refuses to wear them. He puts them on and then takes them back off within 10 seconds. He sees he can see better with just his eyes.

Any tips for getting him to keep them on?

Bribery?

It will take a short while for his eyes to adjust to the new prescription. So he will see better with them but perhaps not just yet.

Hope you had some luck today? Mine started wearing glasses at 3.5 years old and for him it was bribery indeed- but bribery about looking at things. E.g. there is a digger working over there- we can go look but you have to wear your glasses? (He was construction site crazy- still is). He was fine with it after a day. I hope it goes the same for you!
Oh! After a few days we also went back to the optician who ended up fitting his glasses better as I had noticed they were a digging into this ears a bit.

Not much luck today. As soon as they're on his automatic reaction is to take them off. I even tried putting a one minute timer on my phone to see if he would keep them on that long. He did but he was constantly looking over the top of them.

The prescription is +3 in both eyes which I think means he struggles with seeing things close up? He insists he can see better without them! I'll persevere but may need to take him back to make sure he has the correct prescription.

My daughter started wearing glasses when she was 3, it took her a few weeks to get use to them. She’s now nearly 6 and wears them all the time. The best thing to do is encourage.

At +3.00 in both eyes at his age, he won't see particularly poorly at either distance or near. I assume he has an eye muscle imbalance? Or can't see the bottom lines yet on the chart?

You are going to need to bribe him, let him spend a bit of time on the tablet with them on and get a sticker chart for a treat at the end of the week.

If you're still having problems in a week, go back. Sometimes there is a problem with the glasses - although with kids we do triple check them. But we can also lower the prescription to make it easier to adapt, then put it up if needed.
