HELP! 8 week old

Hey all

Looking for some advice please!!!

My 8 week old son has started crying so much for the last 2 days. He goes red in the face, sometimes eats loads sometimes doesn't, he has lots of wet nappies but the poo has decreased. He also seems to grunt and strain (like he is trying to poo) BUT when he does poo (maybe every 2 days at the moment) it is normal (albeit sometimes a lot). When he strains, he stretches his legs and like stiffens up where you can't sit him down, we make sure to burp and have tried infacol, gripe water and recently started debtunox colic drops. He is combination fed.

He is also sleeping less, he was on maybe 3/4 hour stretch at a time. Now we are lucky if he sleeps more than 1.5 hr! He wakes up crying!

Looked at his bottom gum earlier and you can see the white outline of the two bottom front teeth. Surely he is too young to teethe??

I have spoke to HV about his pooing and she said due to his poo being normal and not hard, no constipation. I really don't know what to do, it's so horrible seeing him cry so much and I'm going out of my mind!

TIA

Xx

Breast feeding babies don't poop as often as formula as a general rule, but I suppose you are somewhere in between that. He could have trapped wind, try laying him on his back, bend his knees gently towards his head. Has he been combination fed from the start. It could be he doesn't get on with the formula.

He could be teething at 8 weeks. It's unusual but not unheard of.

Sounds a struggle for you and I've been having some of the same issues with my 12 week old. I just do lots of leg movements, dangle his legs down across my legs and move his hips etc to get him to poo or relieve wind. Also lots of circular motion massage on his tummy. If I were you I really wouldn't resort to any of the things you've given him. He's brand new to the world and his body just needs to process life in the outside world and a tummy that processes milk instead of getting his nutrients from an umbilical cord! I know it can be really tempting to want to instantly fix things with drops etc but fixing something with one thing can lead to a different symptom elsewhere. Also try going dairy free? I've done that since 4 weeks and he's much happier when passing gas/pooping now. Hope it settles for you!
