9 month old won't eat solids - any advice?

My 9 month old is really not enjoying solids. We started just before 6 months and he was a bit more adventurous and would try a range of purees and finger foods. The last two months have been really poor. We can sometimes get him to have purees, mainly the pouches, but anything I make for him or anything with slight texture he doesn't seem to like. He won't let us feed him and he's more likely to feed himself with a spoon, which I don't mind, but he seems to have completely gone off finger foods. He's had the odd cold and teething episode which I tried rationalising was the reason why he'd gone off food, but these come and go and it's two months on and he's really not interested!

Any advice to help him get better at eating, especially textures? We've realised he definitely has a preference for sweet to savoury but I imagine most babies do! We sometimes have more success feeding him directly from the pouch, but worried if this is creating bad habits!

First thing I always ask when they're not eating much solids is, how much milk is he having roughly in 24 hours and which type of milk is it? If it's a follow on milk you might want to thing about swapping back to first stage milk as the added iron can seriously mess with their appetite.

If he's not enjoying texture though, has he ever been checked for Tongue Tie. My DS really struggled with textures and lumps, turned out he had undiagnosed TT.

Thanks so much for replying @CadyEastman he has quite a lot of milk and I've tried to reduce it to make him a little hungrier for solids. He's still in stage 1 Aptamil, has about 900ml a day.

Interesting about the tongue tie. He did actually have one identified at 4 months old and had it cut (they missed it when he was a newborn as it was posterior). I wonder if it's not been cut properly/not healed right. It's got me thinking!

Maybe it's reattached?

I'd try cutting down on the milk though. The aim is to get them into 450 mls a day by 10 months according to the latest guidelines. Maybe drop one bottle around breakfast time and give him his breakfast with a cup of milk instead?

Yeah I'll ask the health visitor about the tongue tie, don't know how easy it is to get referred when they're older.

I read the 500ml recommendation too and it really surprises me. My boy has always been big (96th per centile), so I feel he needs more to sustain him and I worry about starving him!

Have a look at the link I posted about TT. It will give you an idea of he's displaying any symptoms Flowers

Mine had no interest in solids until 18 months - I kid you not.

I know this was a few months ago but have you had any improvement with the solids?
My DD is nearly 10 months and completely gone off solids. When we first started her on solids she did so well, she was feeding herself and having finger food. Now she has no interest in finger foods and the same as you anything I make her she will refuse or only have one or 2 spoonfuls. It's progressively got worse since about 7 months, she did get her first tooth at 8 months and her second one has just come through this week so I am wondering if this could be playing a part.
She will eat yogurt or puree fine but not interested in finger food at all. I have been giving a few of the 10 months plus pouches to make sure she's getting a bit of texture and she does manage with these and is chewing the lumps but she is eating less solids than she was about 2 months ago.
