Chiropractor advised me to give my baby probiotics following an adjustment for a viral infection which has apparently affected his digestive system and made him constipated, she said the probiotics will help it to heal - has anyone else been advised or done this with their lo. DS2 is 15 weeks.

colette - how did you administer it - I have been advised to add it to my baby's bottles which is why I am a little reluctant - I don't want to mess with the formula.

I def wouldn't. Sorry.

I'm sure he'll heal on his own.

I'm thinking of the recent program with Dr Regan, where they checked out the results of giving adults probiotic drinks. Some had more beneficial bacteria afterwards, and some had more harmful bacteria. It's a bit of a lottery if that program is to be believed.

Ds was on cows milk so I added it to that. sorry have not been on since

Probiotics of the appropriate kind will help, depending on age of baby, since they help to regulate the intestine. Probiotics are very important for natural immunological defenses. Some docs recommend probiotics every time a person is on an antibiotic, since antibiotics kill good bacteria as well as bad, and make you more prone to other illnesses. However, small babies do not have all the same bacteria in their intestines as adults. Get one formulated for babies, usually only with bifida, or if you are bf take the probiotic yourself.

We are routinely prescribed Reuteri (drops or chewable tablets) for all babies/children who have had antibiotics or tummy upsets.

DH and I also now take them when we have a stomach upset and and it seems to work well.

I gave my dd2 a specially formulated for infants probiotic as she had prophylactic antibiotics for the first year.

Got it from biocare.
