Our 2 yo has suddenly started really stammering. Both my husband and I noticed it. Do you go to gp? Health visitor? Any thing we can do? Or do you have to wait it out? He will mostly repeat I. So e.g. I I I I I I'm hungry or similar.

I'd go to the HV and ask her to refer for some SLT.

Is he just 2 or nearer 2.5?

I actually think this is fairly common and would advise keeping an eye but trying to ignore it and see if it passes. Both my children did this around 2. My friend is an SLT and told me it often happens during a big developmental period and goes away suddenly. For both mine this was the case. She called it normal non fluency, not a stutter or stammer. Have a read.

Hi OP @Myfirstsecondthird I'm just wondering how your little one is now? My 2 year old son has started doing the same. Thank you

@Greentomatoes21 this would make sense about a big developmental leap as he is saying a lot of new words lately. It's just hard to watch him struggle and wonder if we should be doing anything. I have reached out to HV so will see what they come back with.

Hi @Redapple21 it took a few weeks but it slowly went away and I would say within a couple of months it had completely gone. It felt a bit like his mouth was catching up with his brain. Hope this helps

Ps... His nursery told us not to make a big fuss or even mention it at all. So we took their advice.
