If so what was your child like as a baby/toddler? My little girl is 16 months. Doesn't crawl/walk or talk. She flaps and rocks. She has trouble with eye contact. Doesn't play with toys typically. Doesn't show me anything or interact with me. Doesn't like facing me when I pick her up. Doesn't like cuddles. Could be left with strangers and wouldn't care. Still on blended smooth foods as she can't bare textures. She's only 17lbs. We already have had her assessed and he said he can't diagnose her yet as she's too young and to wait till she's 2. Iknow she has autism bless her. I am just interested to know what your children were like this young and what they are like now? If they have progressed? Can they talk?

I didn't even know there were different levels. You learn something every day.

Have you tried asking in the SN Children section OP? You might get a few responses in there Wink

@CadyEastman I didn't even know that section was on here but I will re post in there! Thank you. . X

Hi, sen mum here. My son wasn’t diagnosed til age 10 🫣 but is improving all the time. They get there in the end.

@Christmas202 hey, not till 10? Wow! My daughter has been showing signs since 6 months... she's been rocking forwards and backwards and hand flapping / lack of social skills since very very young. She really is only meeting the milestones of a 8 month old and she's 16 months. Still can't crawl or walk yet. ( she has low muscle tone and has physio pharapy for this ) she has a global developmental delay and failure to thrive. I feel like everyone I talk to their child was only delayed in 1 or 2 areas .. where as my Bonnie is delayed in every single area possible. It makes me so sad.

My son was the same. He’s still behind but has come so far. He turned 11 today. Look into neuro rehabilitation. 💕

@Christmas202 can he communicate? 💞

He’s verbal as in he can communicate his wants and needs. He won’t initiate a conversation if you know what I mean

samybooker · 08/02/2024 20:32

@Christmas202 that's good to hear! You have done amazing yourself mama.
I feel so sad because my little girl rocks forwards and back and flaps her hands. People have told me that because of her stims that she's had since 6 months old she probably is going to have severe autism ... and be non verbal. It's scary to hear. She's 16 months but surely she could progress still???

Of course she can improve still! Is she having SLT and has she been referred to Portage? Flowers
