Started with 'big boy pants' and a potty with my 2.5 ds yesterday afternoon. Made it into a bit of a game, set the kitchen timer for 15 mins and told him when the timer goes off he can sit on the potty and if he does a wee he gets a choccy button and if he does a poo he gets a freddo. First time he refused to use the potty when the timer went off and promptly wee'd on the carpet a couple of mins later. But since then he's been on the potty every time! Left him in his night time nappy while he had his milk this morning, but since then he's had a bare bum and been telling me when he needs a wee wee on the potty and he even did a poo in it this morning! Am so chuffed! (But not looking forward to the next few weeks of having to constantly be near to toilets or have potty with me!!! he he.)

Thanks Jura, it's early days tho, I'm not banking on total success. Heard lots of tales of 'em starting well and then having a complete turn around!

I know if someone had told me 5 years ago I would be getting so excited about poo and wee I would have never believed it. I feel as though I've talked about nothing else for the past 2 days!

Feeling very very envious. I wish I was in your shoes.

MoosMa · 21/03/2008 13:57

Congratulations Cubbycub, I'm counting down till DD2 is potty trained, I can't wait!

allgonebellyup · 21/03/2008 14:03

who said it was interesting???

slng · 21/03/2008 19:23

Well done cubby! I had an enormous bag to cart the potty around in for a while. It's not too bad at all. I've read a tip though - take empty jam jars for emergencies. Not tried it but suspects it works for boys more than girls.

perpetualworrier · 21/03/2008 19:37

Oh go away - My DS2 is almost 5 and still has regular accidents . Well done your DS.

dandycandyjellybean · 21/03/2008 20:00

sorry didn't mean to gloat, was just really dreading it, and so far it hasn't been too bad....shouldn't have put it on here. It's just that my sister is in France, Mum and Dad are incommunicado at the mo, and everyone I would normally share with aren't around at the mo. Soz -

You're not gloating, just proud and rightly so. My dd2 is 4 next month and still has accidents so I applaud anyone who has such success early on. Some do get it really quick, so well done your ds ! Anyway, I'm gonna start my own proud mummy thread now ! Don't care if I look like I'm gloating !

perpetualworrier · 21/03/2008 20:10

Gloat away chubby. DS2,although still occasionally soiling during the day, asked to go to bed without a nappy last night and was dry this morning (hooray!)

dandycandyjellybean · 21/03/2008 21:03

Wow, that's fab ppw! I think other than walking, this whole toilet thing is 'the' really big step, don't you? Know we all do it at different times, so it isn't a 'aren't we great coz we've done it at this age' thing, it's just a 'wow, we're getting there and I'm so chuffed' kind of a thread.
