I believe you can get a cot tent which is like a mesh roof for the cot that they can't get out of. Awaiting info from more knowledgeable MNers

Nomad travel tent. Pricey but brilliant. We used it and it was fab, as safe if he tried climbing. You can either leave the door open for him to get out safely, or not.

I would get him in a toddler bed. They're OK for kids from about 18 months. You could always use a bed guard if you're worried he'd fall out.

my dd was 13months when she went into a normal bed (needed cot for new baby as grown out of carrycot) we put a bed guard up and she has never fallen out. She is 2 now and when she wants a nap she takes herself to bed.

He is definetly ready for a bed.

Agreed, put him in a bed. My daughter went into a normal single bed at 13 months, and we put up a bed guard and pulled out a trundle bed underneath, so if she did fall out, she only fell onto another bed. She did fall out a couple of times, but because it is a mattress underneath, it doesn't even wake her. She is now 16 months and happily settles herself into a single bed. hth

if you put him in a bed and have lots of problems with night wandering there are a couple of other things you could try. I tried lashing the bottom of a grobag so he could not get his leg over the side of the cot, also taking one of the slats out of the cot so he could get out without climbing over.

We have had no more problems since touch wood. Think it was an attention seeking thing. Have made it clear that bed time is for sleeping and have made sure everything is safe and left him to cry for 5 mins then put him back in the cot. No more problems. He does need to move in to a bed so we are off bed shopping this afternoon!
