I am going to be putting my dd into her cot bed at the weekend and I am wanting to buy her a quilt. At the moment she has one from mothercare but it's not a big fluffly one which is what I would like. Its quite thin and I am thinking that dd will easily kick it off during the night whereas if she has something heavier then I think it will be better.

Any thoughts please

Maidamess · 18/03/2008 20:16

I used Ikea ones too.

The White Company ( discount via MN, I think)

DS1 has one from John Lewis, but it isn't a heavy one; we chose it like that because we also use a top sheet on his bed. They probably DO do heavier tog ones.

dd has a zorbit one, i think i got from mothercare ( was ds's before so can't remember exactly) its a 9 tog one and they have both been fine with it

They only have one type of baby quilt as i recall. it is quite thin but you could layer up with cotton blankets.

Flibbertyjibbet · 18/03/2008 22:16

oooo those cot bed size quilts are a rip off. I got a normal single quilt from matalan or somewhere, cut it in half, bound the cut edge with some sewing tape and voila two cot bed quilts.
Cos you need two y'see in case of bedwetting, being ill etc etc.
This does make two quilts each slightly smaller than the cot bed covers, but once again flibbertyscrooge got some nice plain blue cotton sheets for a couple of quid each and made my own quilt covers.
I think the quilts are about 4 tog and we have a lovely blanket that goes over when its cooler.

Oh and I made the quilt covers about a foot longer than the quilt so there is an extra section to tuck in so it doesn't fall off the bed as much.

lizandlulu · 18/03/2008 22:18

i got mine from dunelm mill. its quite fluffy. our house is freezing in the iwnter, and my dd had this and another thin quilted blanket on top. not sure of the tog though.

Another cut price flibberty and co suggestion is to just get a normal single quilt of whatever tog you fancy, get the child a nice fashionable/themed single quilt cover and put it on the cot bed sideways with half of it tucked under the mattress. Child can only fall out one side and the quilt can't slip off the bed.
Wish I had thought of that before I got my sewing machine out.

we used to have cot bed size duvets but its a ballache getting duvet covers that aren't really babyfied. We got em from ikea, and then of course could only buy ikea covers, which were either pink or blue bubbles, or pink or blue flowers. We have now moved to proper single duvets which we turn over at the bottom so as not to have double depth on their bodies and can buy thomas the tank engine and postman pat duvets covers at bargain prices from tesco! we bought 13.5tog for winter, but will be getting thinnewr ones for summer as their room can get really warm.

Meeely2 · 19/03/2008 11:43

oh and boys are 3 now

francagoestohollywood · 19/03/2008 11:49

I used IKEA duvet with Ikea duvet cover. But also a beautiful patchwork quilt (thin though) bought at zara home.
