quick question re: giving up the baby monitor

I still have a monitor in our bedroom. Our dd is 3. She's in her own bed and in the morning gets up and comes into our bedroom. Her room is at the back of our house, ours at the front.

Problem is that when she makes noises in the night (or more likely very early morning) it wakes me and dh up. Usually, of course, she then goes back to sleep - and we don't. Should I just give it up? It's just that - very, very occasionally - she's not been well and woken up crying.

Got a feeling I'm going to get lots of replies along the lines of "a monitor for a 3 year old - are you mad??" "Stop being such a PFB freak" etc etc

You will hear her without the monitor if she reall y cries. failing that she will come and get you. You already know this - it's just part of being a mum to want to protect her, but you need you sleep too

I admit that DD (22 months) is still sleeping on her Angel Care monitor

a monitor for a 3 year old - are you mad??... Stop being such a PFB freak etc etc

I know - I'm not this pathetic about anything else, honestly.

Thanks

Keep the monitor in your room...just take the batteries out. You deserve a decent nights sleep!!

IdrisTheDragon · 18/03/2008 17:55

She will come and get you if she needs you. And if she is upset, you will hear.

squeaver · 18/03/2008 17:57

Oh it's not like I haven't slept in 3 years! I know I'm being stupid - I just need to be told! (that's what MN's for, isn't it?)

Good idea, though, Maidamess - I'll just switch it off

We got rid of ours as we don't live in a huge house and I realised at about 10 weeks with DS1 and 4 weeks with DS2 that I could clearly hear him even if he whimpered without it.

bubblagirl · 18/03/2008 18:07

i forced myself to give my ds up when he was about a yr i struggled as wanted to listen out all the time but found it dominated my thoughts

so just got rid of it and then peeked in if woke for the loo and new he was fine

still do now but he spends as much time in our room as his own so dont need to really worry lol

a 3 yr old is more likely going to be heard than a baby

go in and kiss goodnight when you go to bed go to bed knowing she is sleeping soundly get some sleep

if she wants you she will shout or go to you so just relax and sleep

As long as the bathroom doesn't have anthing poisonous hanging around, you have a stairgate and she can't hurt herself. You don't need a monitor really. At 3 she should be able to howl really blooming loud and wake you up. You have a sixth sense anyway I believe.

In our house, I have put them on the other wing. This usually means that by the time they have got to our wing, they are tired and just fall asleep down the long gallery. We just pop a blanket over them and gather them up at breakfast time. See - it's terribly easy.

squeaver · 18/03/2008 18:51

Thank you all - will switch it off tonight!

SB - I like the sound of your house. Is it Blenheim Palace?

I meant to put a huuuuuuuuuuuuge smiley after that Lol.

MNersanonymous · 20/03/2008 21:20

Scatty - but surely the servants would be gathering them up in the morning, whilst the butler gets breakfast laid out for you?!

I still use my monitor for ds but I really wouldn't hear him from downstairs - we keep his door shut and it is a biggish house.

I have no idea when to stop!
