Should dd be confident walking before moving to a big bed?

Planning ahead as expecting no2 in Sept! Dd has only just started sitting up on her own and crawling in the last couple of months (she is 15 mths and still not pulling herself up at all) and paed said she has low muscle tone and is likely to be late walking (could be close to 2 yrs). 2nd child is due in Sept when she is 21/22 mths and will probably be in carry cot with us for 3 mths or so then move into dd's cot. Will she be ready for a bed if she is only just/barely walking? Should she be able to get into and out of the bed on her own first? We already have a single bed for her in what was the spare room which will become the baby's room and really don't want to buy another cot just for a few months...

if she has low muscle tone and you need to put her in a bed could you just put the mattress on the floor for a while? that way she wont injure herself if she a) falls out or b) tries to get out herself but her legs are unable to support her?

put the mattress on the floor for a while.

If it;s a full sized single she might struggle for a while. I think ds still would a bit, when sleepy, and he's 3.5 yo.

Aah - my brain is obviously not engaged - a very sensible suggestion that I should have thought of! Thank you

If you do have to buy a cot for a while it's not that bad. I needed an extra cot when expecting DTs and I bought one on Ebay it was a really lovely John Lewis one and it cost us £50. I have just sold it 2yrs later for the same amount!
