Parents of ‘advanced’ babies

second baby, she’s 10 months old. Has been walking for the last month, very active, never wanted a cuddle from newborn, constantly on the move from birth. Can turn pages, feed herself with spoon. Nursery said she is very advanced for her age. My first wasn’t like this at all, took her time with everything. So am very exhausted with the constant activity and business. My question is, what were your babies like as toddlers/children?! Do they calm down at all?

My son is exactly the same - didn’t know it was advanced behaviour though (FTM). I’m interested to know if he’ll ever calm down too!

No, mine just continued like that. Took a while to get a diagnosis for ADHD Grin

Yeah my thoughts are ADHD!

My DS was also like this and ahead with his major milestones, but socially he couldn’t keep up (despite being ahead academically and very intelligent). He was diagnosed with ASD and ADHD!

I was also similar as a child but no diagnosis…

That’s interesting! I wonder if she is heading that way, it’s very challenging trying to keep her busy all the time and she never wants a cuddle or to be held!

Oh FFS she's not even 1 and not insanely advanced. Just enjoy her and love her and stop overthinking it

Just for a counterexample, I had two very active babies (although they did like a cuddle if tired/hurt/scared/poorly). They were very wiggly in utero and continued the same way once they were born. However, they both actually did calm down as toddlers. They are still very 'busy', but as their fine motor skills, language, imagination, and so on developed, lots of the busy-ness went into those things, and they can focus for a decent amount of time. They still need a decent amount of exercise, like any healthy child, but busy colouring, building, or playing doctors/café/shops/etc. the rest of the time is quite a lot easier to manage!

Far too young to even contemplate neuro diversity!

For what it's worth, my daughter who has ADHD was a very chilled baby.
