Feet - dodgy running....should we see a specialist?

Hi all,

My eldest son (3.5yrs) has a funny stance on his feet - it's like the weight is on the inner edge of them and so his feet roll inwards. It's noticeable when he runs and forces him into a kind of duck-like feet splayed run (he can't run too fast). We're wondering if it is something we should go and see a specialist about and try and get it corrected now to help him in future.

Anyone any experience of this/advice etc?

Hi - you could explore some movement/physio therapy and ask about patterning a more typical "gait" into your little one's body from the feet into the hip joints. This will help with the way his feet strike the ground and push off again. (Potentially investing against later knee and back issues in adulthood) Did he have a clear crawling pattern?

my ds has this it wasnt very obvious when he was small but it has got worse (he's 9) we have been advised to get him sports shoes that support the arch of his feet. this helps but they are expensive (40 in the sale he's in an adult 4 now so prob why)
i would def go see your doc for advice

Thanks for the replies....yes, I think we definitely may save him probs in future by getting this looked at now.

Not sure what a "clear crawling pattern" is.....something to do with knitting perhaps?

Hi - re clear crawling pattern - sorry for jargon, although i'm all for therapeutic knitting :-) i meant did he go through a crawling stage before walking? Sometimes when crawling hasn't been clear for whatever reason, it can be a clue to later movement/posture difficulties.

yeah, he did crawl....both normally and his feet and hands - but this was probably due to our coir carpet upstairs which can be majorly tough on the knees!

Wife asked her doc the other day and she said it's quite normal/common...but she'll take a look at him and see.
