Can anyone help? my one year old has had diarrhea for 4 days now, vomiting for 2. Today she's really unhappy. Moaning a lot, not yelling just whimpering. Lethargic (well she hasn't eaten for two days) Doctor said yesterday that it was just a virus and would go. But how long will it last? And when should i be worried?

I would take her to out of hours. Phone gps and get number for surgery and take her.

If nothing else, lethery and whimpering screams help needed.

go and phone now.

If its nothing then you've lost nothing.

Is she bf? She'll be dehydrated too, will she drink water?

Don't want to panic you but I really think you should take her to be checked.

NHS number is 0845 4647

okay thanks. she's drinking lots so not dehydrated.

My 11 month old had this about 2 weeks ago, it lasted 7 days, my guess is if its the first time they've had it it takes longer to fight off.

I ended up taking him to GP on day 6 ( after lots of calls to nhs direct) and they said not to wory as long as still wet nappies. Recommended diralite, but my ds hated the taste but would tolerate juice.

Hope she gets better soon

we had this with ds two weeks ago, and it took a good week before he got better, gp told me they can only really help in instances of dehydration and its caused by a virus and not bacteria.

You'll have to sit it out, and makes sure she drinks, I went full juice with ds and skipped milk as it made it worse. Dry toast with marmite worked too. She will let you know when she is willing to eat again.

There are loads of tummy bugs around atm, DS had a vicious one just before Christmas, then another last week which dragged on, we took him to Dr after 5 days and it cleared up the next day! The main concern was keeping fluids going in, didn't mention diralite, keep food simple - toast etc and don't worry if they don't eat much. Its scary when they go listless on you and its worth keeping phoning Doc/NHS to reassure you and make sure its nothing worse.

I agree with Slur, to me lethargy and whimpering sound like she needs to be seen ASAP!

dylsmum1998 · 15/03/2008 19:21

my 1 yr old has this at mo, i was told that if its just diarhoea and vomiting then not to worry as soon as she gets lethargic, stops keeping fluids down or get a temp (any of these not all) straight to docs. she's had this since monday, dont know who more tired- me or the wash machine

Minerva1 · 17/03/2008 14:12

thanks for your help. she's actually a bit better now, but passed it on to me and her brother. yes washing machine is knackered and we're all a bit lethargic!!!! Hubby is keeping out the way! plentiful supplies of bread and water!!!!
