Advice needed re leaving work to care for disabled child

Hi all, I wondered if anyone had experience of leaving work to stay home with their child.

My son is 4, he's in nursery five days a week. We deferred him so he should start at an SEN school next September. We haven't got a placement yet but the council are dealing with that with us - he got an EHCP granted in August. He currently gets the middle rate DLA and doesn't get the mobility allowance although I think he is entitled to the low mobility rate once he turns five (in April).

He has a global development delay and is most probably autistic. We are awaiting a diagnosis - long waiting lists!

My partner works full time and I work three days a week. I find it so hard to work to be honest, my son's sleep is so unpredictable and I'd love to be here with him more on the days I work.

I called citizens advice last week and from what they worked out there isn't much different in what I earn and what id get in benefits - around £100.

The benefits include carers allowance, his dla, child benefit and Universal Credit.

Support for Mortgage Interest loan is part of the breakdown they gave me and I have never heard of it. Can anyone advise if this is a thing they have taken and if its OK please?

I am so nervous about handing my notice in and then finding out we aren't getting what we thought we would be entitled to. I know there's a wait for the mortgage assistance and universal credit and that means money would be tight but then I'd not be spending so much money on parking and petrol and eating at work.

Could anyone share their experiences please? I would be so grateful!

Would the mortgage be interest only? How long would the relief payments be for?

I'm finding the guidance confusing but I said what was left of our mortgage is 147000 and they quoted they'd lend us £90 a week towards it. To be repaid if we sell the house which isn't likely for a few years!

If the £90 a week is repayable, it's essentially a loan? Are they charging interest on the loan?

Yes, it's like 3% and not based on credit or anything like that.

You seriously need to work out what you'd owe when you come to sell.
