I know guidance is 1 year..but would it harm him I started weaning onto it slowly now?
He's SO hungry, had a poor slow start to feeding and putting on weight, thriving now and doesn't like milk warmed anyway.
What are the problems with weaning onto it before 1 year? He has 4-6 petit filous every day, cheese, milk on cereal and porridge, butter and no reactions.
Any advice please :) Thankyou

The problem is that cow's milk doesn't have the right balance of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals to be a primary source of nutrition for a baby human. A little in a cup won't make him ill any more than a little on cereal will, but if he's having a lot of dairy, he won't necessarily be getting everything he needs to best fuel his growth and development. (The same is true once he's one; too much cow's milk/yoghurt can make it hard for children to get the variety they need because they are too full of milk.) With things like flavoured yoghurts/fromage frais, even children's ones, they can also be getting too much sugar.

To be honest, it sounds like he's already having a quite lot of dairy during the day, so if he's still hungry, I'd be trying to fill him up on other healthy foods. Some babies and toddlers can eat an amazing amount!

As skkye says not the other problem is is that it can be high in sodium which can be difficult for their kidneys to deal with as they're still a little immature.

He does seem to be having quite a bit of dairy already. Is he having any other spices of protein? He only needs 13.5 Floz of formula a day at this age, the rest of his calories should be coming from food.

There's a good guide here which gives sample menus and suggestions of portion sizes.

He is on 3 meals a day- porridge for breakfast, toast/fruit for lunch and a bigger hot dinner. He's also on 5 7oz bottles a day still- just loves milk! Xx

I'd maybe start dropping one of the bottles and offer a more substantial lunch?
