Stuttering at 3yo

Hi!

I'll start by saying I'm a mum of 3, so I know there are many perfectly normal things that parents get too stressed about 😅😅

So my youngest is stuttering. I have absolutely no experience whatsoever of this. I don't know what is normal or what is of concern.

Actually up to today I just dismissed it 🤷🏻‍♀️ she did it just occasionally and I thought maybe it was with more unfamiliar phrases. However today she stuttered while sort of singing a line from her favourite tv show, a little song the she sings to herself nearly everyday.

What experience have you had with stuttering? Does this sound like it's here to stay? Should I take her to a professional? Is there a way I can help her?

Thank you! ❤️

My DD did this and at times severely. I found it extremely worrying but it did pass. A speech therapist told us to speak very slowly to her, always let her finish her sentences, refer to it as 'bumpy talk' and just her brain moving too quickly for her mouth, and also arrange some 'special' 1:1 playtimes with her totally led by her. It did pass x

DS does it occasionally, still now as an adult. I would ask your HV to refer her for SLT but in some areas you can still self refer.

@ConfusedFox thank you for the suggestions ☺️ I'll definitely try that!
I might still mention to the doctor just in case it is more serious than I think
