Shocked!

I don't know if this is the right place to start this thread but I am so shocked at the moment.
This morning I was woke up by an almighty bang coming from dd's room. I immeadiatly jumped out of bed and at the same time she started to cry, when I went into her room I found her lying on her front on the floor!!!!
She seems o.k but I am so shocked that she has managed to get out of her cot. There is nothing around her or in her cot to help her get out so you can imagine my confusion!
Could it be the cot or am I just being silly. Has this happened to anyone else?

Could she have climbed out?

nailpolish · 20/12/2004 10:52

this hasnt happenened to me but one of my friends. did she stand on a toy to get out maybe?

im really glad shes ok - you really must have got a terrible fright!

nailpolish · 20/12/2004 10:53

would you think about a bed with a bedguard?

sandyballs · 20/12/2004 10:55

One of my DDs did this at about the same age - went into the room to find her in her sisters cot, so she had shimmied out of one and up into the other, no idea how! Time for a bed I think, with a bedguard.

muminlondon · 20/12/2004 10:58

my niece could pole vault herself out of the cot at 17 months. Better put lots of cushions on the floor. I would have been shocked too!

Newbarnsleygirl · 20/12/2004 10:58

This is the thing about it. There is nothing in her cot as apart from her cover and a thin pillow. The base is on the lowest level. I'm quite consious of her having things in her cot as I have caught her hanging over the side of the cot when she had started to sit up! I became quite close to ringing mothercare up and complaining and then I realised it's not there fault! I am still very

It's a cotbed that we've got and I thought about putting it to a bed. Isn't she too young? I'd worry about her getting out of bed and doing something awful like pulling the drawers on top of her!

it is a little young but there is no rules on age, just weigh up the pros and cons and decide whats best. if its a cotbed then you can always put the sides back on if it doesnt work out.

its just that it might happen again, and you would be too worried about that. with the sides off its not so big a fall.

i put my dd in her own bed quite young too, and have never had any probs. with the bedguard she rarely gets out anyway

muminlondon · 20/12/2004 11:05

I think either way you should put something soft on the floor to break her fall, but maybe you should covert it to a low bed anyway (as my sister did at 17 months). She sounds strong in the arms and able to tilt herself over the bars. Was she walking and climbing really early?

Newbarnsleygirl · 20/12/2004 11:07

What bedguard did you/do you use? Dh is working away today and tomorrow (typical!) so I think that she will have to sleep in the travel cot tonight in our room and Dh will have change the cot!

She was cruising from 10 months and started walking for her 1st birthday so pretty normal I guess.

ive got one that you can vary in length and it folds up for travel. you can get ones that fold down for easy access too - i would have like one of these but it wasnt suitable for the bed dd has

i also find it handy having a pocket for the juice/book whatever - maybe not just now but when dd is older

Newbarnsleygirl · 20/12/2004 11:37

Can you get them from most places! I've only really seen the blue net one and a wooden one but they don't really look like they are very long, if you know what I'm trying to say!

OP posts:
nailpolish · 20/12/2004 11:39

i was worried too about it not being long enough and i bought the longest one i could find

ill try and find it again and send you a link

the other thing is they are all recommended for age 18 mths and up - but a lot of people use them before 18 mths with no probs

just to reassure you

Newbarnsleygirl · 20/12/2004 11:41

Thanks, that would be a great help.

i cant find it!

just thought of something else though - maybe you could try her in a grobag? then her little legs might find it harder to climb!

nailpolish · 20/12/2004 11:50

mothercare have good ones

also toys r us, argos

Newbarnsleygirl · 20/12/2004 11:55

Not to worry, thanks anyway. I did think about a grobag before, she used to have one when she was younger but I thought that since she's become mobile they might not be as good. However after todays experiences it might not be such a bad idea. I suppose it's a good way to keep her warm aswell cos she's quite a wriggler in her sleep!
Thank you for your advice.
