Hi,

my son was your neurotypical child, walking on time, eye contact was perfect, talking many words even sometimes putting 2/3 together in a sentence. When he was 5 months he had his vaccines and 2 days later had a seizure. He had a few over the next few weeks and then nothing for months. As I said he started to talk, walk everything was perfect and then suddenly at the age of about 16 months he stopped everything. His eye contact is weak barely there, he has lost all of his language and says no words apart from mum, he seems as though in his own little world, very fussy with food etc. He is now 2 and a half years old and still doesn’t speak only babbles, he still gives very little eye contact and doesn’t like to play with other children. He does show when he’s happy/ sad/ angry and other expression on his face. He shows plenty of signs of autism which had me thinking it was regressive autism however I just find it really confusing that I have videos on my phone of 18 months ago where he is looking me in the eye, posing for pictures and talking to me and now he does none of that.

has anybody been through anything similar ??????
also yes I have had him under the hospital etc however they have lost many of my referrals and we have been waiting 18 months to see a doctor and still no better off!!!!!????

@Leighrj, sounds a little similar to our story. Period up to 18 months our son seemed just like any other kid, in fact he has started standing, crawling and walking much earlier compared to any kids around us. Not sure if it was linked to vaccines (could well be!), but as he grew older she started loosing his focus and appears always distracted, has a speech delay and doesn't respond (or rarely) to social cues. Very irritated if doesn't get his way. Just turned 3 and is falling behind from his age group by a lot. I worry that he may have either autism or ADHD or even both... His behaviours were indicated to us by the kindergarten as well as the logoped, we await for the ADOS test. I am living in constant worry ...

Hi, thankyou for responding I have been feeling so alienated with my friends whose children have autism their “symtoms” were from birth and so nobody could ever relate to me. Have you researched regressive autism? I didn’t get my sons one year vaccines as he started having seizures after his 4 and a half month vaccines. The doctor admitted to me that he thinks the 4 month vaccines caused his seizures and this could have effected his development however he is showing too many signs of autism for me to blame the seizures alone. I feel as though doctors are scared to admit a lot about vaccines although I can’t also say it definitely is down to vaccines as his development continued as normal after them until a certain point.
I feel exactly the same as yourself I cry most nights trying to find explanations and put myself to blame for ever getting him his vaccines etc. I find it so hard to watch videos on my phone of over a year ago where my son is looking at the camera and laughing and speaking to me where now he can barely keep eye contact and babbles a few sounds.
please let me know how you get on, sending massive hugs and support your way :)

@Leighrj how are you? Sorry I only now saw the response. We are still in the same situation, however I spoke to his current kindergarten teachers and it seems that one of the teachers has son with autism! She reassured me, that my DS is still very little and is going through a lot of changes. She praised us that we are taking him to speech therapy on our own behalf before we even know diagnosis- a great forward step. She said it's too soon to tell if he does have autism or not ( in her opinion from her experience), as it's only been a couple of weeks in this kindergarten. What made me calmer is that she said - her son is now in his final year of finishing PHD in Science/ Biology and is extremely focused on something that he likes, he flourished in school and diagnosis didn't stop him living a live to full. But early intervention was a key to help him when he was younger. If you have any worries- seek for evaluation and immediate therapy if it turns autism or ADHD. Early intervention really helps a lot. We are few weeks a away from our ADOS tests...
