Hi there, has anyone started weening there baby at 14 weeks? Consultant has said to start at 4 months to help with chronic trapped wind. But our baby is always hungry, his head is stable, should we start him on baby porridge!

If a Paediatrician has said to wait until 4 months I would do as they say.

I weaned my first at 4 months and it's not easy, definitely not as easy as when they're showing the signs of readiness.

If your LO has severe trapped wind, has baby got any of these symptoms? Or have they discussed the possibility of CMPA?

Babies at 14 weeks are generally always hungry. They can’t really go very long between feeds still and solids won’t necessarily help with that. Especially as for a little while when you start weaning they don’t really eat a lot, it’s more about getting used to texture and flavour for a bit, so it won’t really fill them up at all for a good few weeks.
If you’ve been told to start at 4 months then it’s best to wait until then. At 14 weeks they won’t be showing the signs of readiness yet so do try to wait until the time you’ve been told.
One of my friends babies had CMPA and they were prescribed a different milk and told to start weaning at 4 months. But she said it was quite hard as they’re so young and not really ready. I think she started with things like liquid purées, basically stuff that’s the consistency of milk.
I’d be very very cautious giving anything thicker at this stage.
