My friends daughter is 2 and 2 months old,
She can't walk yet but I've noticed yesterday that she can't stand up either, I was playing with her and tried to stand her up against the sofa but her legs just buckled to the floor, I feel like it's not my place to ask questions but I know that she is "against" health visitor check ups and declined the 2 year check up. she's says just a lazy child but I'm worried there's more to it and physio would help ? Or can children just be delayed for no reason?

Unable to walk or bear weight and not talking (at all?) at 2 year 2 months would both need looking into – the walking/standing potentially more than the speech, if her understanding is good and she's babbling with a range of sounds, the speech is still just about within the typical range.

That said, I'm not sure how much you can do. Is there any chance she does in fact know something is wrong but doesn't want to discuss it, or is in denial about it? Does the wee one attend nursery or any groups?

No babbling completely silent apart from some humming noises, doesn't attend nursery, my friend is quite open and knows she can confide in me, I genuinely just think she's in denial 😞

Hi,

just wanted to come on and say my daughter is 3 in April, and she is EXACTLY the same, can’t stand, walk, talk - she is diagnosed with global development delay (she is mentally 9 months in age) and is on the pathway for autism (also displaying signs of epilepsy but that’s apparently part of her autism and not actual epilepsy?? Idk)

id definitely recommend speaking to your friend about global development delay and autism, it may be something completely different but you are 100% right to be concerned - my daughter has been under our hospital since 18 months because of her issues

its also worth mentioning if she is agreeable to getting support for her daughter, there are benefits she can apply for (DLA) that go by needs rather than diagnosis but a diagnosis helps massively

is your friend concerned at all with her daughters development?

Just wanted to add as well - this is far beyond a “lazy child” sounds a lot like mum is in denial :( I have one ND and one NT child and my NT child is lazy, she can walk but would rather hold my leg or hand and chooses to be carried and spoon fed (even though she can and will do it all by herself hahaha) whereas my eldest (ND) genuinely CANNOT do these things for herself and needs constant support throughout the day

i am worried for your friends child she very obviously needs support and she won’t recieve it if mum doesn’t access it
