From cot to bed

DS1 (2.3yrs) has recently been moved into a junior bed, so that we could leave it a month before DS2 (10wks) moves into the cot.
We bought Bob the Builder bedding to ease the transition, and he has had no problems sleeping in there at night.

Afternoon naps though are a bit of problem. He used to do an average of 90mns after lunch, peaking 2hrs if ill or particularly tired. Occasionally we'd have weeks where he refused (e.g. the week after the baby was born), but I persevered and kept putting him down.

But that is far more difficult in a bed than a cot. What do you do to keep yours in bed, and going down for a nap?

By the way, he doesn't cry or throw a wobbler, he just sits in the bed and sings and chatters, hops out for toys, jumps about a bit, but seems fairly happy. I just want him to settle down and sleep though as he is more irritable if he doesn't kip after lunch.

Any ideas appreciated.

thinking of moving ds to a bed as well - he's an early riser! wonder how this will work out!

Think you might be in for some early mornings! Our DS would wake at 6.30am, but stay put in the cot till 7.20am, when his "kidsleep" clock switched to "rabbit awake" time.

Now he's at his door at 7am, shouting for Daddy (who does the early shift!). Good luck!

lol i put dd in her bed in jan, still cant get her to afternoon nap in it, same as your lo sits and plays talks to her teddy etc etc. i have given up tryin we have to go out to pick up ds from school so she naps then.

We kept the travel cot and use that for nap time, otherwise it was just unsupervised play. DD will stay in bed in the morning though- we put sides on her bed and she shouts 'is it morning yet?' - no, here's a story and we get half an hour more- bliss!
But she will nap at grandparents occasionally in her bed there- hmmm.

I put my 2yo in his 'noo bah' (as he calls it) the night before last. This morning, he woke at 6am and then went back to sleep until after 7 - which he never did in his cot! We'll see how naps go, but I'll put him in his grobag so he can't move
When he was in his cot I'd leave for a bit whether or not he sleeps - I put a couple of books in with him. I want to keep an hour or so quiet time every day until... well, forever!
