'Incident form' home from playgroup: Is this the shape of things to come?

When I picked ds up from the c/minder yesterday she give me a form that had been sent home from playgroup.

It said that ds had gotten wet in the water tray & one of the leaders had taken him into the bathroom to change his clothes.

When she left him to get a towel he turned the taps on full blast & stuck his hands under them... lifting the water out onto his face & trying to wet his hair

They were laughing when they told me & said he is a real water baby (He's 3) & loves nothing more than to be wet. Now, I know this is true but I try to keep the bathroom locked at home as he is a demon for playing in water.

I'm affronted though that he flooded the sink & then soaked himself... is he just turning into a wee thug?

WoS - it sounds like he was having a great time

I don't think there's anything to worry about

coastalmum · 07/03/2008 11:31

sounds like most three year olds left alone with access to water to me .

why the need for an incident form?

avenanap · 07/03/2008 11:32

A bit ott, I bet he was having great fun. can't kids be kids anymore? It's really sad.

Cam · 07/03/2008 11:34

Probably to cover themselves, to explain why he was wet?

WallOfSilence · 07/03/2008 11:35

I don't know why there was an incident form.. he has had his clothes changed before (like when he climbed into the water tray. Even his socks & pants were changed that time!)

The leader was laughing when she told me, she said he hd a whale of a time, but she also said on the form that she had to have a talk with him re: why we use the bathroom: for going to the toilet or washing our hands.

I asked him why he had different clothes on & he said "Cos Nathan wetted me". There isn't even a boy called Nathan at the playgroup!

WoS - just a thought

By blaming the fictitious Nathan he is aware that what he was doing is 'naughty'. I'm thinking a bit of reverse psychology and plenty of allowed water play at your own home, in bathroom or wherever. Maybe enrol him in a water babies club or something and then the fascination may dissipate...?

It sounds pretty minor. I mean he's not biting people or throwing things at people's heads... which are also common with 3yos at playgroups etc. Not a thug IMO!

Why not encourage him - tell him he has to be careful not to get too wet at playgroup, because it's a hassle to have to get changed etc., but you will play with him in the bath or with a bucket of water - you could get him a waterwheel toy, or measuring jug and help him learn to measure out water and so on. Let him water plants with you, and have water fights in summer. Take him to a waterworld-type swimming oplace were they have waves and water toys. You can use all that to help him learn when it's OK and when it's not, and help him satisfy his interest in it.

Nathan could be his imaginary friend

Wisteria · 07/03/2008 11:49

My brother had one of those Cam and really can't remember him now but I think he lived with us for about 2-3 years

Cam · 07/03/2008 11:50

My dd2 had an imaginary horse when she was 3 who used to go to nursery school with her and everything.

Only problem was it was called my real name

Wisteria · 07/03/2008 11:54

At least it wasn't a dog Cam

My dd had 2 imaginary friends, but they were never badly behaved!

I do encourage water play at home. We have an outside hose & a load of buckets... he 'washes' our car about 6 times a day..

I walked into the bathroom the other day to see 2 dimpled hips peeking at me from above his joggers... he turned around & he was piddling into an empty bubblebath bottle!!! WTF???

I told him to use the toilet but he said he was making bubblebath.

I usually lock my bathroom door from outside it, but dd had been in using the loo!!

ROFL at bubble bath concoction

He sounds wonderful - I have a real penchant for 'naughty/ mischievous' little boys, as did my Mum who was a teacher - they were always her favourites and she said with the right parenting they'll go far

He sounds like he has a pretty healthy imagination - won't be long until you dread April Fools Day
