When did you ditch the buggy-board?

My DS1's just 3 and he's basically a bit lazy. When I try to get him to walk, he's not keen. He has a scooter and loves doing that but going uphill? Not keen. He had a horrid fall going down a steep hill in the rain. So now - guess what, downhill's out too.

I'm getting fed up of heaving him and his brother around, but not confident enough to leave the buggy board at home. If I knew there was an end in sight, I might feel better.

When did your kid start walking more or less all the time? Or should I just be a bit more hardcore?

Make a game out of it...counting steps, looking for something he's into as a distraction, telling him big boys walk etc.

Ds has been walking everywhere without a buggy since just before he was 2. He can walk miles at a decent speed. Not quite adult speed but not dawdling. A few months prior to that he was just like your ds (albeit younger). Definitely try and tackle it - he is old enough to be walking more.

Hi I have similar situation. DS is nearly 4.5 and still reliant on board. the problem I have is he has flat feet and his gait is still quite babyish so according to GP is finding hard mechanically, he also doesn't run as well as most os his peers.
We have a scooter but everytime I end up carry it.
However we are having some success with short/med distances and I got there by like Save suggested by making a game of it.
We're still a long way of but want to drop it completely by summer.

My DS(3.5) has been walking most places since 2.5, but given a chance he would still get in the buggy. I only take it out now if we are going swimming, or if he is under the weather. He can walk for several hours with no problem.

Be prepared to chivvy him along, and for him to dawdle, but ditch the board. It's the only way!

Had a minor triumph today as a bit fell off the buggy board so I had to leave it home. He scooted all the way to his friend's house and back - half hour each way. Although by the end on the way there he was knackered. On the way home, after tea he was dying to keep going.

He has gone to sleep almost sitting up with a book on his face... my PRINCE!
