What age did your baby stand?

Hi, I'm a first time mummy and new to

mumsnet.

I was just wondering what the average age

for standing is? My DS is 7 months old and

can stand when supported at the waist or

when propped up at the sofa but only for 3

or 4 seconds. I'm not really worried as he

sits really well and rolled fairly early

and has just today learned to roll back

again!

I'm only asking because this week my

husband and I were at a surestart stay and

play and there was a baby about the same

age as ours who could stand brilliantly and

could just about walk holding onto things

Our DS seems a long way from

acheiving this, although he blows an

excellent raspberry! Please reassure me!

Thanks

Crikey! I said I was new to mums net! Why does my post look like a shopping list? Lol!

ha, that sounds very early to me.

My DD is 15 months and is only now just standing unsupported (has been standing holding onto things from about 11 months). She is yet to walk.

All babies are different - dont worry, yours sounds like he will do things early (trust me, this isnt always the greatest, start bolting everything down now!!)

Don't press return and it won't look like a list This stuff is written without returns and it just types normally ramble ramble ramble ramble ramble.

As for the standing don't worry at all. Mine only worked out sitting at about 9 months. He 14 months now and cruising around the furniture. There is a baby of a year old at his creche who doesn't even crawl, just points at things and yells til someone brings it to her, sensible girl They are all different

perpetualworrier · 06/03/2008 20:55

I doubt this baby was really "about" the same age TBH. Could be a few months older, just small for her age?

Anyway you have to learn now to STOP COMPARING. You will drive yourself mad (or your friends mad if yours is the quick one (wink) ). They all do everything in their own way and in their own time.

I think the 'normal' age range for standing supported (and indeed, most things) is very broad - something like 6 months-12 months (?)Your little one sounds fine

Welcome to mumsnet

DD was standing/taking steps supported (holding hands) from 5 months onwards. She was also a very upright baby, wanting to be up on her feet from very early.

fantabbydozy · 06/03/2008 20:58

Oh I see what I did wrong with the list doh! Sorry, you may have to be patient with me, not too good with technology!

Oh it seems I have nothing to worry about then really. I was just making sure as my baby is a little on the podgey side (he's also really tall and very handsome though!) and I just wondered if he was doing OK developmentally because of this.

i wouldn't worry, from what i can see each baby seems to develop different skills at different times. you may find if she takes a while to stand, she may babble away really quickly or learn to clap or something. agree that it's def better to focus on what your ds is doing and forget the rest

jekyllandhyde · 06/03/2008 21:01

sorry for the 'she' i mean 'he' of course

clur79 · 06/03/2008 21:02

My son has stood supported for about 3 months (8 months now), however does not really roll ( I think he can, but haven't actually seen him!), he also can't for the life of him figure out how to crawl.

Its funny how babies can do one thing, but not another. They are all different.

My son can't blow a proper rasberry, just blows out of his mouth - Bless!

Desiderata · 06/03/2008 21:03

9 months before he stood unaided. Seven months holding on to things.

fantabbydozy · 06/03/2008 21:03

Thank you all. The baby at the stay and play meeting was exactly a month older than ds, which I guess is quite a lot in terms of development. I try not to compare and I will try a bit harder in future! I know they're all totally different. As it happens, this baby that could stand and nearly walk, couldn't sit unsupported so I guess they all have different strengths. I'm just really proud that DS finally learned to roll back from his tummy today instead of yawping for mummy to come 'rescue' him!

DD cruising at 6 months, crawled at 9, walked at 11.

DS1, crawled at 6 months, cruised about the same, walked at 10 months. (Incredibly hard work!!) Couldn't blow raspberries and slow to wave and clap.

DS2, 10 months old now, commando crawling only (and by that I mean on his tummy, not crawling with no pants on! ), just starting to stand and hold onto furniture although been standing holding my hands for a few months, takes a few wobbly steps while holding my hands but NO sign of him walking or cruising independantly any time soon and I'm loving it!! Blows fab raspberries and has been clapping and waving well for a while now. He's sooo much easier than ds1!!

Am still regularly surprised by just how different my own dc are to each other, never mind to other people's dc. They all have their own particular areas of expertise and adorableness!!

HereComeTheGirls · 06/03/2008 21:33

My DD pulled up and stood for first time today..and she is 16 months! She is definitely late with it but I certainly wouldn't worry at 7 months!!
