4 year old avoiding friends

My 4 year old daughter has developed a strong friendship with a girl in her class. They went in to class everyday holding hands, so excited to see each other. Then when school finishes they wait for each other to walk out of school together. But over the past two weeks my daughter has appeared really excited to see her friend but then when she comes closer she pulls her hand away, refuses to hug her, hides behind me sometimes and is generally avoidant most of the time. She says she is still her friend and she seems excited to see her every morning and afternoon but then turns like that. I'm worried about it upsetting her friend and her loosing the friendship. Any advice/stories welcome 🙃

I really wouldn't worry too much about her losing her friend. Once they're in school you have very little influence over friendships anyway.

Is she getting a bit tired and overwhelmed with the start of school? Is she getting plenty of downtime after school and done early nights?

I think I'd possibly try a book like Meesha Makes Friends and maybe some Eggspressions?

Thank you for your response. She has been unwell for a little while, just an ongoing little cold. She has been abit tired from that but it's just gotten worse. So I wasn't sure of what to do for the best. I must admit, it's partially to do with it making me feel bloody awful when it happens too 😫
I'll definitely have a look at those books. Thank you
