At 14 weeks DS goes to bed exhauseted at 7ish and (usually) sleeps ok for the next few hours. Then everything goes wrong: from 10ish he wakes and feeds every one and a half hours until about 4am when he wakes howling and writhing as if in real discomfort/distress and can't be pacified (by feeding/distraction/cuddling/etc) for more than a few minutes at a time for the next few hours until we get up for good in the morning. He appears to be straining to fart/poo although he doesn't get this distressed at all during the day.
His daytime naps are very short as he is an incredibly light sleeper (and has a noisy 2 yr old sis) and won't stay asleep if i lay him down. I'm worried that he must be as exhausted as i am.
Can anyone help?

what have you tried so far?
infacol? for e.g?
breast or bottle fed?

if breast,.........well, look at your diet, but dont go drastic, cut out any form of caffine first, cut back on the chocolate.

How is his behaviour before 7 ish?
how does he feed during the day?

hope i can help.

Thanks very much W.

Haven't tried much other than warm baths, tummy massage, 'bicycling' his legs, etc. Haven't bothered with infacol as i never noticed any improvement when i gave it to DD as a baby.

He is BF but i'm not taking any form of caffeine. Recently cut out chocolate (time to stop the daily, post-natal, celebratory bar of green & blacks) but no change.

During the day he's on a roughly two-hour feed/nap/awake cycle. He is a pretty cheerful soul, but when feeding he seems to guzzle a little frantically and then suddenly break off, and rarely seems v relaxed.

I bought some gripe water today. Do you happen to know if it is considered completely safe for his age?

Thanks again.
