Hi, My son has just turned 1, and is still catching up on his milestones.. he only learned to crawl at 11 months old which i know is totally fine as they learn at different paces,, but he doesn't recognise his name when you call him and when you talk to him he just rolls his head back with no interest unless I sing a nursery rhythm to him, I get full eye contact until I stop all focus ends, he doesn't play with toys only throws them and doesn't like to stack or try to interact just likes to mess everything lol.. the last few weeks he's really started constantly flapping his arms and does this cough like a croup sound although he doesn't have a cough, and panting like a dog would do.. He doesn't interact with his little nephew who is 9months, he comes regularly and tries so hard to play and chatter with him but my son has zero interest, he doesn't make much sounds or babble, but would crawl about laughing at nothing and making weird noises.. he likes to stand on his head like he's about todo a forward roll, that's his new party trick lol.. He's never ever slept a full night's sleep are rarely naps during the day, and is very noise sensitive like when out and about loud cars or trucks or sirens etc or hoover or hair dryer etc makes him so scared.. and recently if I shout upstairs to the older kids he screams the house down this is a new thing,, he doesn't eat solids, maybe a handful of dry foods and gags at most things I try him with.. he seems to have some sort of sensory issues holding and touching things from he's been about 6 months old.. all of this I have put across to the health visitor and has put referrals in for physio, o.t and pediatrician but iv heard nothing back and that was a few months ago.. I know you shouldn't compare, but when I see my wee son and grandson together and you can really see the difference in what my grandson can do say and eat aslso sleeps all night compared to my little man, its kind of clear maybe something might be wrong, can anybody relate or give any kind of advise, please be nice its my 1st time postin and have little support, he's my 4th and youngest and is very different from my others.. tia 😊 ps his big sister on his dad side is now 6 and is still non verbal level 3 autism, I really want to be wrong in my theory but my gut tells me otherwise 😏

It's really good that the HV has taken your concerns seriously. I know waiting lists are long on some areas but I would contact the HV again and ask her how long it's likely to be before he's seen.

I'd probably ask her to refer him for Portage and a hearing test too, as it rules out things like glue ear Flowers

Thankyou gor your reply, I don't think there's anything wrong with his hearing, if he hears Mr tumble or a certain thing come on the TV or someone come in the front door he near gives himself whiplash to turn and see who it is etc.. iv never heard of portage before though? I'm going the ring the community pediatrician to see if there are maybe any cancellations or see how long I'm going to be waiting too 💐

If he's going to be having SLT having a hearing test is pretty rountine. They'll want it done just to make sure he has full hearing and it's not low hearing which is affecting his speech.

I'd definitely ask for the hearing test and portage.

And I think ringing the Community Paeds is a good idea Flowers

Not long off the phone he was referred in June and on the urgent list already so she said hopefully dec/Jan they'll call for him to be seen 🙏 💐
