Can you tell I'm happy?

DD is almost 22 months and took her first steps on Christmas Eve but yesterday started walking rather than cruising and is my little star!

We went to music group this morning and it brought tears to my eyes to see DD walking around and joining in with her peers who have been walking for much longer.

I'm very proud of my little girl and just wanted to let all you lovely ladies know that - they do all get there eventually, so please do not stress at HVs/friends/family questions!

The concern was that DD was double jointed, but it turned out that she is just as bendy as you can get without being double jointed. No worries about muscle tone.

She was just taking her own sweet time

This is brilliant.

A momentous occasion and you need a glass of something to celebrate!!

LilRedWG · 03/03/2008 17:12

NAB - I had a bottle of something last night to celebrate!

I like your style - a bottle.

LilRedWG · 03/03/2008 17:13

And have a bottle of bubbly in the fridge for tonight as a suprise for DH

My 14 month old is a bottom shuffler. She can't go from lying to sitting, doesn't crawl or stand. She won't pull up on anything. At what age should I be looking into physio? Any advice?

MummyToOneForNow · 04/03/2008 19:52

Frazzled - my dd is 15 mths and not pulling up or standing (she sat up on her own for the first time at 13 mths, crawled just after 14 mths). I mentioned it to my GP at 12 mths - we were referred to a paediatrician who we saw a couple of weeks ago and he has referred us to a physio who we see in 3 weeks time. He said she has benign hypotonia (low muscle tone) but no cause for concern - she will just reach those gross motor milestones later than average. We have found the process reassuring so far and are glad we raised it. Just hope she is walking by the time baby 2 arives in Sept!

HereComeTheGirls · 04/03/2008 20:33

Frazzled - I have heard that bottom shufflers just don't bother pulling up or getting up to walk until late, as they have a good view of everything from their bottom shuffling position. My friend's DD bottom shuffled and didn't walk until 21 months, she is fine and now plays tennis! If you are really concerned you could ask your GP or hv though!

MummyToOne - glad to meet someone in same position..my DD is 16 months and much the same, although she has started trying to pull up in the last week!

LilRedWG · 04/03/2008 22:15

Frazzled, I'm sure that there is nothing wrong with your DD, but if she willnot/cannot weight bear it is worth getting a referral to a physio to check that everything is okay, if just for your peace of mind.

If everything is fine then you have the pleasure of being able to say, "Told you so" to annoying people and if she needs some physio/treatment then you are starting nice and early and will get quicker results.

Try not to worry, but do get her checked out. I said I wasn't worried - and I didn't think I was - but it was still a relief to be told officially that she was healthy and there were no problems.

How lovely, well done to your DD LilRedWG!

Frazzledwiththree · 04/03/2008 23:19

Thank you all for your comments. Will probably take her to the GP for a referral, just for peace of mind. She's a very content baby with two older siblings who run to get her everything she needs, which is partly why I think she's not bothering to do anything herself!

LilRedWG · 05/03/2008 08:28

I would Frazzled.

Thank Hula Am still grinning like a fool watching her now.

oh sweetie, that is nice but I really ought to be getting ready to take DD1 to pplayschool.

I made the mistake of reading my mumsnet email news thing and it made me all nostalgic.

edam · 05/03/2008 08:50

well done to LilRed's dd! Amazing, isn't it, how one day they aren't doing it at all, and the next day they just take off like they've been doing it for ages? I think they practise in secret while your back is turned.

LilRedWG · 05/03/2008 08:55

Edam - I think they do.

Aww, I like this thread - great to think how exciting it must be for a little girl to have such a new perspective on her world !

On a different note - I was really surprised to hear that your daughter was referred for physio because she wasn't pulling herself up or walking at 1 year. Out of our antenatal group of 7, 2 of the babies weren't doing that or crawling by their first birthdays. Another friend's baby at 13 months is not moving at all and from reading threads on here I didn't think it was that unusual. She hasn't mentioned that her HV is concerned, having said that am not sure whether she takes her DS to clinic very often.

LilRedWG · 05/03/2008 09:19

I had to put my HV off - she wanted to refer at nine months! (muttering about protocol and all that). In the end, I got exasperated and said, "Fine, if she's not weight bearing by 12 months you can refer her!" Then someone asked if she was double jointed, like her child, just after DD's birthday and I caved.

It's official!! The physio discharged DD this morning!

That is great news!

I hope we won't be TOO far behind, my DD is now pulling up on everything and wanting to walk along the sofa holding on, also climbed out of cot last week . Still a long way off walking though!!

MehgaLegs · 17/03/2008 12:45

That's lovely news LilRWG. My DS4 walked at 28 months - it's great when they finally get there.

LilRedWG · 17/03/2008 16:37

Thanks both! It is a lovely feeling and I unashamedly doing Proud Mummy at the moment.
