Different accent to parents

Hi everyone, was hoping someone could share their experience or knowledge with me on this topic.
My 4 year old daughter has a completely different accent to her dad and I. She speaks quite proper, nearly has an english accent and we are from N.Ireland.
When she was learning to talk I know I always over pronounced words and spoke properly to her as I didn't want her to have my broad, country accent! She also enjoys watching the dreaded Peppa and other english cartoons, bing etc and American toy videos on YouTube.
Her nursery said she was struggling to make friends for the first while but was finding her own group as they finished for the summer.
Googling these things points to autism! I'm in a bit of a headspin now.
She does however have no obsessions, no delays, not routine bound, doesn't stim, good eye contact, amazing pretend play and imagination, always answered to her name etc
She is very mature and articulate for her age though.
Mainly it's the accent that's worrying me and sounding different to her friends.
Do you think I need to be concerned?

How do the staff at the Nursery talk?

Concernedmum16 · 03/09/2023 13:17

Hi @SiouxsieSiouxStiletto They all talk in a variation of the same accent (northern irish), so do most of the children. To me her accent stands out whereas my husband doesn't think it does.

I think you're right to think that it can be a red flag for ASD but I wouldn't automatically jump to that conclusion.

How does she score on the 4 year social & emotional ages & stages?

@SiouxsieSiouxStiletto scores in the white for all areas.
She has just started school so I know the nxt few months will help me clarify or put my mind at rest. Its such a large spectrum and I know everyone with autism is completely different so I want to make sure I'm doing my best for her.
