8 month old miserable at night

I know that there must be something wrong, but I just don't know what. He is very happy during the day (most of the time!), but at night he wakes up frequently squirming or crying. He used to sleep 8/9 hours, wake up for a quick feed and then back to sleep.

We are doing baby led weaning (i.e. finger food only), because that's all he will take and I'm wondering if it's a digestive problem.

Another thing is that it all started when we went away and he became quite clingy, but that was over 2 months ago now.

He seems to be developing very very rapidly crawled 2 weeks after sitting, pulled himself up a week after crawling, and is moving his legs as if wants to start walking.

Does anyone think any of this is related? It had calmed down and he just needed to be fed back to sleep or to have his hand held, which is fine, but the crying is getting to me and he has to be walked back to sleep now.

If you don't mind me asking why just finger foods? With all that energy he is using with crawling etc is it hunger? Or teething?

How many milk feeds is he having in the day..what are his sleeps like in the day??

sometimes when babies are developing rapidly and are doing more they are more unsettled, as they can get a bit overstimualted and over tired.

will he take a milk feed in the night?

He takes milk feeds all night! and all day! He's still breastfeeding and the ones during the day are generally fairly short but frequent. At night I don't mind the feeding, it's that sometimes it just crying and he refuses the breast and has to be walked back to sleep.

It's only finger food because he won't take purees unless he can feed himself buunysgirl! (My doc said he is a control freak!). so he takes a little yogurt and porridge on a spoon when he can.

He is definitely teething (has 4 teeth and 2 more on the way), but is fine during the day, so I thought that it seemed like it wouldn't be keeping him up at night??
